Sargon: I love the CIV series and a different (though obviously inferior) take on it's formula sounds like something that I would enjoy. But the game must first be made compatible with the community patch\sequel. (Or the patch\sequel must be made compatible with the gog.com version.) Either way it seems to be in activisions hands. I hope they will be more supportive than Infinite Interactive was. It is really in their best interests.

From the posts on their forums it sounds like they'll probably make the patch compatible with GOG's version.
the issue is that the EULA says they have to make it compatible with retail versions and not "do material harm" to activision (such as by removing cd checks). But now there is a download version you could argue that not making the patch compatible would "do material harm" to activision as less people (me included) will buy the game.
Yay for legal minefields! (that should be a tech upgrade)
