Nice release. I have never played Call to Power 1 and 2, only the real Civ. games.
Now surely I will, I just hope that GOG gets Call to Power 1 in the future, and the Firaxis titles asap. :)
I will definitely get this one!! Playing Alpha Centauri at the moment and it's amazing!

It's really shame that SCP isn't compatible with GOG.com version. Hopefully GOG/SCP team can convince Activision to drop the CD check requirement from source code license. For now I'll just add it to wishlist.

ATTENTION! Stop! Lower your expectation before it's too late! Don't be badly disappointed!
No, really - Alpha Centauri is up there at the pantheon of the best civ games, right next to civ4+bts. Shaping expectation upon such monstrous thing can't end too well. I remember Call to Power being quite nice and I think it's different enough to warrant at least a try, but still! SMAC! It is a beast. It devour three infants every morning and then bath in virgins blood. How can you compare anything to that?

biocat: Looks similar to the Civ series. How does CTP2 play compared to it?

chrisis: It is similiar in many aspects but also introduced a couple of things that weren't there until Civ IV. The first part of the series actually was called "Civilization: Call To Power" and had that title because of the rights being at Activision (after the Microprose collapse) at the time. It's nearly as confusing as the Tetris history.
Whatever, because of those legal problems, don't ever expect the first part to ever be released again.

And good riddance. I bought C:CTP thinking "Civilization! Yay!" It wasn't. It was bad, and I uninstalled it again after maybe an hour of play.

Amen to that. SMAC has features that are missing in Civilization today, like the unit workshop, the 3d terrain, interesting diplomacy, brutal terraforming, planetbusters and truely different factions.
I'm replaying SMAC since this week, as I found some really good guides and a community patch at Apolyton.
Insta buy game...
ui, graphics are so much more fresh compared to civ2 or even civ3..
This is the oldskool game i loved...
There is a grammatical error in the slogan--"Power to change the history".
Think i had this game a long time ago and was very enjoyable. Plan on getting this soon.
instabuy!
This was the only Civ or Civ Spin-off (okay this one and Civ City: Rome) still missing in my collection. Now finally I got them all
I love the CIV series and a different (though obviously inferior) take on it's formula sounds like something that I would enjoy. But the game must first be made compatible with the community patch\sequel. (Or the patch\sequel must be made compatible with the gog.com version.) Either way it seems to be in activisions hands. I hope they will be more supportive than Infinite Interactive was. It is really in their best interests.
Hooolllddddd it right there! lol
I'm not comparing anything to SMAC and I'm helllllll no saying it's 'better' or in the same league as SMAC but... SMAC was/is the first game of that genre I've played to I'm wondering how Call to Power 2 is. :-)
But thanks for the heads-up about not getting badly disappointed though. :-)
Ack... SMAC is six shades of awesome.
But CTP II?
I hated Civ: CTP because all I can remember of it was that it was broken. Terrible balance issues, unexpected crashes, stuff like that.
I don't recall CTP II fairing all that much better actually.
I will say that I really liked the public works system. I liked most of the special units. Slavers were nasty. But I always felt that the overall package was sloppily constructed, coded, and supported.
I mean, your mileage may vary, of course, but for my money the Civ series is far and away better. It is good, though, that GOG is bringing it... it ain't for me, but that game has a lot of fans and they deserve to get their game.
Watching the page before release, bought it as soon as I was aware it was available.
Proceeded to slap railroads and advanced farms across the continent. :D
Hooray! ... HOORAY!
Finally a treat for us turnbased strategy gamers and what a treat it is. :D
Hrrrm (Clearing my throat for a speech.).
Civilization was a truly revolutionary game and can still be fun. But for some gamers the sequels didn't evolve it as much as they hoped. Features was added and graphics improved but still it felt like more of the same.
Then came Call to Power. And there was evolution and progressive thinking. Gamers rejoiced.
But the old conservative king of the genre was too powerful and throttled the new threat to his throne in its young years. Even its relative Alpha Centauri was taken care of before it could grow up to be a threat that might have changed the old and trusted ways of the genre.
The Old Kings iron fist is still felt and it is as always. What's given to the masses is good enough to keep them happy and if someone gives more it's frowned upon because then the ruler have to at least make a show of trying to evolve.
