Thank you so much, GOG!
can someone explain WHY it's so amazing?
I've heard such great things about it, but FMV games never look that good these days.
I guess it has puzzles like other adventure games? Good puzzles? Good acting? Good script? Plot twists?
I amvery excited re: the release of GK2. Can I assume that 3 is on the way?
Anyway, thanks for another great Tues.
Call to power II has an interesting story according to Wikipedia, the game got one patch and after that Activision dropped all support for the game, later some dudes asked for the source code and amazingly they got it, ever since then they have been modding Call to power II as hard as they can fixing all bugs, improving the AI, Etc. Pretty cool story which makes me want to buy the game just to check out the community mod.
Didn't even have to think twice on this one....Bought!!
I just installed my own Mystery pack version two days ago - with the subtitle patch - and it runs like a charm on my win7 pro 64-bit :)
BUT, I'll be sure to get GOGs version as soon as I get home.
Just to have a working version in case my CD's goes all scratchy on me, lol.
Brilliant game! I just started replaying it this weekend though and spent quite a while converting my 6 CDs to ISO files so I'm afraid I won't be buying it since my CDs work fine.
Still, this is everything Phantasmagoria isn't: it has lots of charm, great locations, great story, lots of characters to talk to, great puzzles, etc. etc. The 6 CDs feel like they're filled to the brim here.
Thanks guys, downloading now.
The only GK game I have fond memories of is GK3 (its preemptive Dan Brown rip-off notwithstanding), but I guess there are far worse FMV titles out there than GK2. Added to my wishlist.

soulgrindr: can someone explain WHY it's so amazing?

*number #1 reason- really great plot with great plot twists/ Real history and fiction is mixed so convincingly that to this day I'm not sure which parts were made up.
*variety in gameplay- you get to play as Gabriel who gets things done by sneaking around places he's not supposed to be and getting in danger and then you have his partner, Grace, who is level headed and uses her mind for research and locating people.
*great puzzles
*good acting
*wonderful soundtrack

because its the only FMV game to have been named Game of the Year by a major US publication? :D (at least i think its the only fmv to have done so heheh)
Very cool! One nitpick — why did GOG change the title and the boxart? It's "The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery." Ugh, that "2" was thrown in with a Papyrus font? Blasphemy!
Not really, I forgive you. But the GOG boxart looks too Photoshopped.
Anyways, thanks for releasing this. I hope extras like the soundtracks get added to the download somewhere down the line.
I recently played through GK2 again this summer but I will definitely be picking up GK3 once it's on here.
A bit of help, I'm not sure if the gog version has this but when I played it this summer I found a nice patch/site which helped you play the game on xp (which I'd assume you won't need for gog) but also to take out the interlace lines in the FMV scenes which are a lot better.

I love GK2, it has good acting especially by Peter Lucas and the woman who plays Grace in it. I felt Gabriel himself was a bit on the weak side in terms of acting (he just didn't fit right for me, going from the New Orleans style character voiced by Tim curry to this more "Ny/model" type of character.
(Maybe spoiler'ish below)
The story is decent and lots of good things, still it seemed rather strange to me that they use FMV for every character, then go to computer graphics for a wolf...which made it look out of place and not that scary imo, they really should have used real world costume/props a la American werewolf in london.
