Just a quick note guys.
If you're willing to learn the keys, playing with the keyboard is absolutely no problem either. Don't pass on it just because you don't have a joystick.

If steering with the numpad (like me) and the ship feels very sluggish, try hitting the Y ('axis swap') key once. At least for me the axes were wrong by default.
