Plentiful by any definition!

Agarest: Generations of War - Collector's Edition, a fantastic kawaii tactical RPG coming with a full soundtrack, digital artbook, and more sweet, sweet bonus content, is available 50% off, DRM-free on GOG.com. With such a discount we don't see a good reason to pass on the collector's version, and get the cheaper regular edition, but if you make that call remember that you can always go for an upgrade later. The -50% discount for all three items (collectors edition, standard edition, and collector's edition upgrade) lasts until Monday, December 8, at 10:59AM GMT.

Agarest: Generations of War - Collector's Edition includes many unique features that cannot be found in any other Strategy Role Playing Game. It takes place across 5 generations of heroes, starting with your first character, Leonhardt. During each generation you will build relationships with 3 different female party members, and at the end of each generation's story arc you must choose to marry one of the girls. Unite with your chosen heroine and use the “Soul Breed” system to shape the fate of the next generation of heroes. Build your ultimate army of warriors and master Extra Skills, Special Arts and Over Kills to defeat colossal enemies! Choose the path of Darkness or Light through a truly epic story, spanning multiple generations, and battle hundreds of different creatures using an array of character abilities, in a compelling and innovative turn-based combat system.

inc09nito: If DLCs are indeed only some stat increases , cheats and things you can normally unlock in the game, then surely I am happy with GOG's decision. I am also thinking about buying this stuff, I have a soft spot in my heart for a cute japanese anime/manga style. :)

Frostyfirefly: That's one of the things I didn't like about games in the Agarest saga and made me abandon the series altogether, without the DLC purchases, you need to grind for months before having a chance at some "normal" missions, in fact, without the DLC, it's pretty much impossible to get the best ending in Agarest 1.
Just to understand this: Agarest 1 is "Agarest: Generations of War" ("Record of Agarest War")? Or do you mena a different part of the series?
I'm okay with this GOG decision. While I'm for people wanting to support developers, I'm not for developers making games that force you to buy the cheat DLCs just to play effectively. In a way, I'm more supportive of this because it's Agarest than anything else. If blocking the DLC makes the game unplayable, I actually feel that's best. It shouldn't have been designed like that in the first place, and if the developer's only going to learn that with reduced sales...

This is the one, yes. Agarest 1 = Agarest:Generations of War.

I bought the collector's edition a while ago, with the boobie mouse pad and the sexy anime girl pillow case (don't judge me!) :P

I'd never judge anybody (negatively) for something like that! :-D
And thanks for clearing it up!
My review is up, if anyone wants to see it, check the game entry; half of it is what I wrote here though.

liquidsnakehpks: i am not happy with the no dlc decision give the agarest devs a break they just jumped on to the pc platform recently and did not know how the dlc stuff is taken in by fans here . They have explained their position on steam.

I think restricting any content just based on assumption is a poor decision . Leave the option of buying the dlc for this game to the gog customers themselves if they bought the game and want to support it more or want to make things easier in the game by buying the dlc let them do so.

This reminds of the train simulator series on steam and its dlc , they made a good game and hence tied up with real train companies to release more trains and dlc and there is a lot like upto 2000$ in dlc for the game but its not forced upon.

a) you can buy any dlc you want
b) they freely upgrade you to every new train simulator year release they make
c) your previous dlc purchases are carried over.

Speaking my experience from being on steam and consoles for a long time. No matter what game you release or how many dlcs you release. There is always someone who loves that platform so much that they will buy everything without any complaints.

Limiting the content makes no sense. Dont let the collectors down specially those dedicated ones on gog.

here is their word on the dlc

That's your opinion ; but here's mine :

those DLC are purely cash grab , they ruin the game play : they almost consist of items you can get by playing the game or are booster stats / gold

The total price for those cost more than the game itself , if at leastt those DLC were real content >.>.

The special version at this sale looks good, price is very great at this sale, game looks good,

however

Minimum system requirements - Windows: Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8, Processor: 2.13GHz Intel Core2 Duo or equivalent, Memory: 1 GB RAM, Graphics: DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics card with 64Mb RAM and support for v3 shaders, DirectX: Version 9.0c, Hard Drive: 5 GB available space, Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card, Mouse, Keyboard

thats quite big for me, and that above is the minimum

lucky for me the game seems to uses 3d renderd graphics, it will probablt allow zooming in, rotating and all the likes of 3d games.
Since 3d is not my cup of tea this makes it easier to not be able to play it (the sale price is good, its just that its 3d)

So the only 2 reasons i cant buy it is the fact that the minimum system is to high,
i have quad core
at 2.67
and 4gb ram
nvidia GTS 250

so it will be quite laggy and stuttering
and its 3d unfortunately, being it a bitmapped engine i might have taken the high sysrecs for granted, but the 3d nocks me off and prevents me from buying it.
too bad it cause it looks very nice ...

Yes, I completely agree, back when it first came out on the 360, a $50.00 game ended up being a $100 game or so, with nothing relatively new except some items.
I played this game on steam, just for a couple of hours though. It's... not very good. The combat is kind of repetitive, but it's the story that fails big time. It feels more like they're telling you what happened, instead of showing it to you. "We have to talk to the king, the kingdom is in trouble!" Next scene, "what a pity he didn't listen to us". Hey, show me the conversation! It feels more like they are covering some bullet points rather than actually making a story, I don't know how to explain it well but it just didn't feel right. I slugged through the combat to reach the next story area, but each of them was so underwhelming I just gave up.

And yet I know I'll end up buying this game on GOG, again. Sigh. At least I'll wait for a better sale.

The story gets better as the game progresses. The combat does not :(

That's actually a terrible comparison, as I am a victim of the dev/publishers first selling the game themselves online and in brick-and-mortar stores, and THEN deciding to Steamify the game after release, tying all new content, patches, etc. to Steam. Very irritating, when I had a perfectly good un-Steamed CD!
The more I'm reading the less sure I am that I want this game... :/

For those who have played it; what is the combat like? (I can live with a bad story) When you say it's bad and repetitive is it any more so than a JRPG usually is? Is there another game you would compare it too?

And what's the levelling / customisation like? I love unlocking all the various classes and skills in JRPGS and Tactical RPGS, is there much of that?

Combat is move, attack, use magic, use special attack... repeat according to the situation. Special attacks are flashy the first time you see them. You also have to see how close you place your characters to each other and other positioning factors because of area of effect boss attacks, etc.

The customization is pretty standard, no classes, just making your character better at certain things (they are pretty much +1 modifiers to various stuff); in other words, your army won't end up being that different from another player's army in the end.
