Silverhawk170485: R.I.P. Tom

I read that he soled the rights of using his name for games to Ubisoft. He wasn't even involved in the newer games which were published with bis name.
So Ubisoft can still make games with his name.
Back in the mid-90's, Clancy started a company called Red Storm Entertainment that developed the first Tom Clancy games (Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, along with a few others). They were based near my house and used to have get togethers at their HQ for fans of the games on a slightly irregular basis.

At any rate, they were acquired in 2000 by Ubisoft, presumably the rights to Clancy's name (in some capacity) went along with the acquisition.
I'm pretty sure a certain Third Echelon agent had to put him down after they released Blacklist.
RIP.

What the? It wasn't that bad. Certainly not as bad as Conviction or Double Agent.

But not as Groundbreaking as The First 3 games, I mean its not a game everyone is still talking about on the internet like Skyrim or the Last of Us, heck right now People stopped talking about Bioshock Infinate.
I pretty much adored this man's stuff. Kinda shattered about this. He shall be missed, terribly. RIP mate.

My copy of Blacklist for turned up today. Not sure I'll be able to play it for a while now.
sigh and so very young :(
This is a loss. Tom Clancy was one of very few writers that could take the legacy of Alistair MacLean and other similar contemporary writers and build upon it. He will be missed.

R.I.P.
My grand father, who has past away a couple of years ago enjoyed his books immensely and re-read them many times.

RIP.

infinite9: I haven't actually read his books from beginning to end but I did see quite a few movies that were based off of them with my favorite being Patriot Games.

This is really depressing to say the least.
None of the films really do his books justice, but Patriot Games probably comes closest.

Really sorry to hear the news.
R.I.P.

I really loved the first few books from him. Hunt for Red October and Red Storm Rising I couldn't put down. He lost me with Sum of All Fears, I just could never get through that book. It still sits on my shelf unread. I'll have to add a book or two of his to my book backlog.
And the first few games before Ghost Recon were just amazing. I was really addicted to those games.
Never did find out the cause. Best ive found is "short illness" seems a bit odd that he was only 66 and to my knowledge didnt have any serious underlying health issues

I've heard the same thing as that was leaked by his publisher. I'm sure it will come out eventually. I can't imagine why they would keep that secret.
Do you guys know where I can find the first 5 Tom Clancy's Rainbow games? All I can find on eBay is the 6th!
