UPDATE: The giveaway has ended and the winners have been announced here: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/the_girls_of_gog_giveaway_no_boys_allowed/post714

UPDATE 2:

The Guys of GOG Giveaway has started and can be found here:
http://www.gog.com/forum/general/the_guys_of_gog_giveaway_no_girls_allowed

"What is better than wisdom? Woman. And what is better than a good woman? Nothing." ~ Geoffrey Chaucer

As the title suggest, this giveaway is open to all the lovely ladies of GOG, no men allowed :-p. But before you boys go sulking and burning your underwear while demanding equal rights, calm down. I will be hosting a boys only giveaway after this one, maybe ;-). So take a deep breath, put your underwear back on, and just relax.

I have met some absolutely wonderful, kind, generous and awesome girls here on GOG and thought that I would use this giveaway as a chance to recognise the many incredible ladies we have here on the GOG Forum by hosting a giveaway just for them. I was also curious to see just how many female gamers we have here on the GOG forum.

The Rules:
1. The most important rule: You must be female. Obviously I have no way of checking this, so I am relying on people's honestly.
2. Say if you are in or not and for which prize.
3. You can only enter for someone else if you have entered for yourself. (Confused? See below.)
4. Must have joined GOG before September 2014
5. No minimum rep for this one, but you must have an active presence on the forum, not just participation in giveaways and code dropping threads.
6. The giveaway will end on Sunday 26th October, at 12:00 GMT.

The Prize:
I decided to do something a little different for this giveaway. The prizes available are a $9.99 prize or a $5.99 prize. As for the something different part, well, if you pick the lower prize (the $5.99 prize), then you get to nominate another entrant for a $5.99 prize as well. Providing that person has entered the giveaway and has also selected a $5.99 prize, then if your name is picked as the winner, you will both get a prize. You can edit your post at anytime to include your nomination. This way you can decide whether to go for a single larger prize ($9.99) or to share your prize with a fellow GOG girl. The choice is yours. Depending on the number of people entering, I may give out additional prizes as well.

For example: Girl 1 enters for a $5.99 prize and Girl 2 enters for a $5.99 prize for herself and also nominates Girl 1. If Girl 2 wins, then she and Girl 1 both get their prizes.

UPDATE: A very generous donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has kindly allowed me to offer a copy of Wasteland 1 as an extra prize (thank you!). If you would like to be in for this game rather than the two other prizes, then please feel free to opt in for the game.

Optional discussion:
What are you top 3 game genres and why?

Female gamers are often considered to be just casual gamers, interested only in quick pick-up-and-play games or games with princesses, cute cuddly animals, or sweet romantic stories. I find this kind of attitude to be amusing, as I am quite the opposite, while I do like a good dose of romance and cuddly animals, I prefer my games a little darker and more in-depth and thought-provoking. Because of these inaccurate stereotypes, I was curious to see what the most popular game genres were for the ladies here at GOG.

Edit: While you boys can not enter for the prize, please feel free to post or take part in the discussion, if you wish.

*Looks around*
Ahem! Anybody here? Anybody? No? That's weird. *feeling perplexed*
Ok then, I'll start off then, in order to encourage others to enter.(especially as having hosted a couple giveaways myself during the summer, I'm aware of the utter disappointment a gifter feels when no-one touches his/her giveaway for an hour :-/)
As you may have imagined, I'm a girl.(phew, got this out of my chest :-) ). Not that this wasn't obvious already(from my avatar, as regarding the tendency for males to use female avatars, they usually use sexy female ones and not your average pirate-girl-next-door stuff)
Anyways: I'm in for the $9.99 game.(for the moment. I may amend my entry in order to enter for someone else later).

And now the question: What are my top 3 genres really? Haven't really thought about that, but I think my top ones are(in this order) RPGs, point-and-clicks and strategy games(turn based and not real-time however-I want to have time to think about my next move). I like RPGs because most of them have good storylines and the characters are very customisable(the downside to them however is that they need a lot of time), I like point-and-clicks because they also have good storylines, and also puzzles(the downside is that some puzzles are too hard for me and I end up looking a walkthrough) and also because the first video-games I played were point-and-clicks and I like strategy games because most of them have historical settings, and I'm a sucker for anything history-based(as a matter of fact, I even study history), but the downside is that the AI usually screws with me(I played Imperium Romanum recently, and the houses caught fire all the time) . Of course, my studies don't leave me with a whole lot of time, which means I end up playing "casual" games pretty often as well(I'm currently playing LYNE and Words for Evil, both very good games).

Anyways, thanks a lot for hosting this giveaway ddickinson and +1!

RPG
Strategy
Simulation

Okay, I'm not a "wordsmith" (and thus, not going to enter for this very lovely giveaway). I think for me, I cannot take too much action happening on the screen, I get a little dizzy or something! So turn-based varieties of RPG and strategy games shine for me. I can take my time, don't mind if I get interupted or need to stop suddenly. But I also like making choices and I enjoy thinking about what I'll do different in my next playthrough, and for that reason I'll play non-turn-based too as long as the timing component is relatively forgiving. For RPGs, my number one, I obviously also hope for a great story/world to play in.

Finally, simulations are great. There are the pure creativty ones (I love city builders) or the economic ones for when I want to think... While I prefer the fantasy setting and a good escape in my RPGs and strategy games, here I can be the leader or goddess I'll never be in real life ;P

Thanks for the giveaway, ddickinson, and good luck to the entrants.
I'm a girl :D
I'm in for the 9,99$ prize +1 :)

I've been playing PC games since I was 3 :P
I find it stupid that people think that girls are only into casual games (wake up people, this is the 21th century -.-). In high school I had a verrry pink, girlie-girl classmate, and she was hardcore gamer. Her favourite game was Hitman.
I'm a tomboy myself, and I don't dress, or behave girlie at all. Because of this people were never surprised when they learned that I'm a gamer, and never accused me of playing FarmVille either.

My favourite genres are
RPG (fantasy) - and yes, I LOVE romances, and I use romance related mods whenever it's possible :P But immersion and gameplay are the most important ofc. My favourite game is Morrowind :)
Adventure (the harder the better, as long as there are no math puzzles)
Sandbox-Craft-Survival (IDK the name of this genre, Minceraft, Terraria, Don't Starve belong here)
I also like fantasy themed stealth games, but I have yet to find one with pure sneaking gameplay, and no creeps, zombies, or other scary stuff in it. I can endure zombies in an RPG where I can kill them with fire, but not in a game where I'm playing in shadows. Just... no.

I hate horror, I have blood-phobia. Blood in games usually don't bother me, as long as it's not gore, but in horror it IS gore >.>
I dislike sport and racing games. I find them boring.
Manager and strategy games also get no love from me, but there are exceptions.

I was going to voice suspicions about your motives, but then I saw you're a "Battle sister" as well.
Oh yeah, the beard in my pic is just for disguise purposes! :P

Not in, obviously, but my top 3 genres (in no particular order) would probably be:
Adventure Games
RPGs
Action/Adventure(?)

Out of curiosity, what suspicions would you have raised if I was a man?

This unbelievably sexist. And anybody that repped the post up ought to be ashamed of themselves. Women get enough freebies thrown at them for no particularly good reason to begin with. I'd like to think that GOG would be a bit less sexist.

Calm down. As I said, there will be one for the guys as well. How is it sexist or unfair if I am hosting one for the women and one for them men?
*puts on fake mustache and tries to enter*
Not sure if bringing all of the girls out of hiding and having a full list of them in a thread is a good idea. :P

hedwards: I'm really starting that conversation
Are you really really? Or is this just obfuscated sarcasm?

That's true, but they're not forced to enter. They are free to keep wearing their disguises and remain anonymous :-).
Can I still post if I don't wear any underwear?

Very nicely done, ddickinson, +1.

My absolutely favourite genre are adventure games - the very first video game I played was Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, and I immediately fell in love with both with the game (big fan of the first three Indiana Jones movies) and the genre. It felt like a movie, only better as I was the main character, and was making decision that unfolded the plot (a bit of an illusion, I know, but it felt good).

My second is RPGs, for the same reasons - it could have been my favourite genre if I had discovered RPGs first, but one's first love is irreplaceable. :-)

Third one... hmm. that's a tough one, as I do play and enjoy other genres, but none sticks out more. Would have to come back to this.

Curious to see what our fellow GOG-girls enjoy, hopefully we'll see many entries. :-)

*sad I can't post my usual Not in.*

Whether or not there's one for men later on or not, GOG is generally too classy for these sorts of contests that are based upon being born into the correct classification.

I assume you misquoted that. But, personally, I'm being serious. One of the reasons why I like GOG is that this sort of divisive contest doesn't pop up.

Don't worry, you can always save it for the men's giveaway :-).

Why would they be hiding? What kind of monsters do you take us for? :P
