hedwards: This unbelievably sexist. And anybody that repped the post up ought to be ashamed of themselves. Women get enough freebies thrown at them for no particularly good reason to begin with. I'd like to think that GOG would be a bit less sexist.
ddickinson: Calm down. As I said, there will be one for the guys as well. How is it sexist or unfair if I am hosting one for the women and one for them men?
Even if you weren't, I don't see how it's any of his business. After all, it's
your giveaway, so your rules apply. I think it's kind of weird that someone can be so negative about a giveaway of all things, which is essentially an unselfish thing. You're doing something for the community, which is a great gesture, regardless of how you wish to do it. And even besides that, I've seen you host several giveaways, so you appear to be a very generous person in general.
All right, end of rant, on to happier things. :)
EDIT: I'll be in for the 5.99 game, and I'd also like to nominate Crewdroog now that she's here, as she just cheered me up by telling her fainting story.
As for my favourite genres:
1. RPGs, hands down. I love entering a different world and playing a different person. Before I played Knights of the Old Republic several years ago I wasn't much of a gamer (although I'd beaten Diablo 2 a few times :P). That game totally managed to hook me, though, and since then I've become addicted to playing RPGs. I do prefer games that allow me to play as a woman, as I find it easier to relate to the main character that way. I think I like RPGs so much because I'm really into storytelling. I've always loved reading and watching films, and that has carried over to my gaming preferences. Actual gameplay is less important to me than characters and plot. And yes, I'm also totally a sucker for romance, I guess I just tend to be a bit nerdy about it. One of my favourite book genres is sci-fi romance. :P
2. Point-and-click games. This was a pretty recent discovery for me. I bought some of Wadjet Eye's games on sale here a while back, and I thought they were absolutely brilliant. This probably also has something to do with the fact that they are very much story-driven. I had to force myself to look past the pixel art style at first, but now Wadjet Eye's games are some of my favourites, and I love the atmosphere in the games. I've branched out to several other point-and-clicks since then. I also bought Gray Matter when it was released here, and that game is now one of my favourites as well.
3. Other than the two genres mentioned above, I don't have a strong preference for certain types of games. I do enjoy playing the occasional adventure or platforming game. I'm not really into FPS games, but I did find myself (unexpectedly) enjoying System Shock 2 a while back. I do like visual novels, which I suppose may be somewhat girly. I particularly enjoyed MoaCube's Cinders (the art style is incredibly gorgeous), and I've preordered their upcoming game, which also seems amazing.
Thanks for the great giveaway, and I'm excited to meet some of the other girls on here!
