anjohl: 1) It *is* Firaxis guys, this is not some fly-by-night FPS developer ruining Syndicate we are talking about here. Why would you doubt them?

2) They would not take on such an oddball project without passionate leads.
Firaxis shit all over Civ 5 and made it the weakest civilization to date.
I never ordered at zavvi myself. I listed it here as it's cheaper and has a good rating on 2 sites I use.
Good to know though, thanks.

HertogJan: As far as XCOM goes, I found 3 cheaper listings:
Forgot to thank you for looking into it, but I think that for ~€10 I'd rather go pick it up from retail. Thank you again for the links, they may help a few others :)
Yup, this game is definitely my most anticipated (if not the only one) big name game of the year. I'll be picking up a copy for my 360. My lappie would choke on this. Heh.
Looks pretty amazing. One of a very few classic remakes that may turn out to be great!
Hopefully they'll still have it in stock by the time I get enough cash to buy it.
Really don't want to have to import it myself because of all those story of super long delays in delivery of import goods in my country.

JMich: Ok, quick question. So far, best price I've found for it is €39.99 in retail. Has anyone found it cheaper anywhere else so far, or should I go get it next month?

Is the squad size really capped at six soldiers? Sure many TBS games have the same limit, but they usually don't let you buy and build aircraft that will be used to carry your troops all over the world so a small recon team makes more sense in them than in an enhanced version of a X-Com game where we rather should be able to send multiple large squads to a same mission if we can afford it, preferably after dropping a few tungsten rods from orbit to the crash zone.

Then again it's almost certainly not DRM free, so even if it updates the original perfectly I can't see myself playing it until a GOG version is out.
This looks like it can be a fantastic game. Sadly, I never played the X-Com games, so I don't have a frame of reference for the originals but generally know how they played.

mondo84: I never played the X-Com games
This is a very serious problem that needs to be rectified immediately.

I've never played any of the originals either. In some ways this is probably going to be a good thing for me since I have nothing to compare it to then. Anyway, if you haven't yet you really should watch that hour-long gameplay preview that was posted about earlier in the thread. I think it looks damn good.

Meh, Civ is Civ. I found the console port to be the best in the series myself. More accessible =/= worse.

Vitek: Thinkgs I disliked: It looked too easy [...] customisation only with pre-order and all that focus on pre-order stuff.
The video was done on normal difficulty. You can go higher (up to Insanity I think they said?), and there is an Ironman option that limits save/reload to make poor moves and character deaths permanent.

The game has generous unit customisation, the pre-order bonus just adds some unique extras that reference older Xcom titles. So long as none of it effects gameplay drastically I'm not really worried about it.

I read some earlier previews that said some of the maps are randomly generated and units have random spawn zones. This would be great for replay if its true.

What impressed me about the movie was seeing your units hear enemies that are out of sight. Trying something other than fixed grid with action points. The Ant Farm.

I didn't really like the 'Glamour Cam', and hope there's an option to turn it off or limit its use. Just watching someone else play only two quick missions, I found myself looking at my watch in frustration whenever the 'glamour cam' started.
This game looks awesome, I can't wait to play it.

As an aside, I wish Ubisoft would push out a PC port of Julian Gollop's last game (which is exclusive to the 3DS), Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars. I considered getting a 3DS for that one (but opted out because I refuse to be seen in public with that obnoxious-looking contraption, and there aren't any other good games for it anyway).
Mr Gollop should Kickstart something. People will be all over a new TBS if it's designed by him.
