DoomSooth: Continuity is important.
http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/UNIT_dating_controversy

And there are whole websites covering the lack of continuity in Doctor Who. I even recall an interview with John Nathan Turner saying it wasn't that important to him.

Oh and someone's leaked nude photos of her a few hours ago. Excuse me for not linking to them.

I shudder to think what the reaction would be if they had a Black or Asian Dr. Who.....I am a little disappointed by the bigotry on display in this thread.
Thanks for helping to maintain "The Male Gaming Geek Who Has Issues With Women" stereotype alive.

It's people like you who are keeping it alive by refusing to acknowledge that people have very different reasons for disliking this decision than what you say. You may not agree with those arguments either, but you could at least acknowledge they exist. But no. Instead you ignore it and persist with the narration that fits your preexisting black and white world view. And that is exactly the reason why so many people who otherwise would be reasonable and civil get pushed to extremes and start violently hating "political correctness" and feminists and whatever. I'm not going to fall into that trap, I'm not going to respond with insults or start reacting with preemptive agression to every perceived instance of political correctness, but many do, and you and your kind are very much to blame. You create your own enemies so that you can enjoy the feeling of moral superiority.

Remember just last year, when Sulu turned out to be gay in Star Trek Beyond? Even George Takei, you know, the actor who originally played the role, is gay and a long time active in fighting for the rights of homosexual people, disliked that change to the character and spoke against it. Are you going to say he's a homophobe? It's possible to dislike such changes to established characters for many reasons other than bigotry. It's just that those reasons are not as easily dissmissed don't give you that nice smug feeling so you choose to ignore them.

Now, are there bigots who hate women and black people etc. taking the lead in popular franchises just because they hate them and because they are terrible, hateful people? Sure. But that doesn't give you carte blanche to handwave away everyone who dislikes something and all their arguments as being part of that hateful minority.

The mind naturally looks for patterns in things, and a character coming back as a guy over and over again definitely drives home that being the only option. Still, you never know when something like this could turn out to be a good thing; the Justice League cartoon included John Stewart instead of Hal Jordan and it turned out to be awesome.

Yeah, and I agree it was a great decision, but this is not like it at all. John is an entirely different character.

It's not like they made the switch mid season without telling anyone.

Which of course could never happen. :D

Yup, pretty much this. With the usual "it cannot be, i am the world's cleverest non-biased hero, therefore I have other motives" rationalizations. For, let's remember, rejecting the notion that a shapeshifting alien can be the same person/soul/personality in a woman's body - after having been hosted by the body of a dozen completely different people of all ages and shapes and attitudes. Well, rejecting the notion that the "good guy" can, because no prob so far with the baddie.

But noooo, nothing to do with any specific representation of human females as a completely different essence than human males. And if the scandal was about skin colour ("what, black, but but, then this cannot be the same person at all !"), it wouldn't have anything to do either with racialist essentialism.

Really, what makes it so hilariously telling is that we're not even talking of a conceptual re-cast (like a female sherlock holmes or james bond), but of an actually ever transforming being. In a series already full of female characters acting just like that one.

So, really, point and laugh material here. But fortunately, that's a dying trend's swansong.

So, I guess you George Takei is a bigot. I mean, if it's not possible to have other motives, then he must be.

Again, conveniently ignoring what someone is saying when it doesnt fit your agenda.

"In a way I already gave it a shot with Missy and I never really bought her as the Master. It never really clicked for me that it's the same character."

And again, from the very same post. "I wouldn't care in the same way, as I don't think skin color has the same impact on personality."

Yes, magnificent, your own specific personal case (yet magically the center of the world) is solely sexism and not racism (except when it comes to crushing all these evil greeks freeloader parasites for the exemple because they deserve it wait i mean "greece" not "greeks" so just stomp the country). What happened to your old chatroom's "pleaaaaase pleaaaase spare me in the forums pleaaaaase" ? Am I supposed to ignore your posts when they answer mine aswell, how does that work already ?

Because as far as I can see, you are still as completely incapable of ever questioning your own biases as ever, still more interested in complaining about lèse-majesté than in ever taking a step back and genuinely re-evaluating your (oh so naturally necessarily super rational) mental categories.

But whatever. If you think that sex determines personality similarities and differences more than any other factor, have fun dealing with the realities of gender continuums. Theoretically, one could toy a long while with swapped genders in pre-existing scripts, just to see you categorizing the "womanly" and "manly" fictional characters, and trying to guess which one's personality could obviously never be of the other sex. But we'll just enjoy the idea of it. And the fact that you picture yourself triumphally sorting them out according to the Natural Law Of Possible Personalities.

You're just hopelessly incoherent. And yes, it's really a great, faithful quote up there. About as honest and reliable as anything you say (see attachment everyone).. Yes, I broke the "silence agreement" since I got fed up with your utter, total, insulting bullshit. The fact that you kept insulting me as part of some larger group rather than personally does not make it any better. You really do live in a reality all of your own, fighting strawmen all day long. You're just ignore anything that doesn't fit your made up picture of the world, and replace it with what does. Even now you are ignoring pretty much everything I said, because you have nothing to counter it with other than hysterical screams of "sexism".

You know, this thread didn't have to end up this way. Except for some obvious trolling in one or two posts it was all rather civil. There were good arguments being brought up on both sides. And, unlike you, I can see value in arguments of people who disagree with me, I can see their point of view, respect it. But of course eventually that had to be brought to an end, becasue damn it, we can't have such discussion right? We need to divide the world neatly into bad guys and good guys. This can't be a disagreement about how to write a character, or a bout a show's dynamic and other stuff like that. No, it has to be evil bigots, everywhere.

Breja: There were good arguments being brought up on both sides.
Nope. There is simply those who think an ever-morphing character can have the same basic personality regardless of the sex, and those who don't. And this defines what "male" and "female" signify to them. The same way a scandal about skin colour would illustrate people's racial views.

But skip as "incoherent" whatever points at this, or at your general incapacity to evaluate your biases.

(The "good points" -which aren't but sound brilliant to you because they flatter your perspective- would apply to any different show, which character's physical traits and attitudes would not be regularly transformed in-universe. The only point that applies in this series' context is the idea that sex determines personality at a depth that goes beyond all the Doctor's transformations, as if there was an obvious behavioral divide in fictional characters that would put all female characters on the other side that The Doctors, and all th male characters on his side. And this point is particularly grotesque given the cast of characters of that series.)

Like I said, you're only capable of seeing what you want to see. You're like rtcvb and his conspiracies.

Uh no. Seeing you is not exactly something I want.

And neither do you, apparently. But maybe you should take a look, some day.
