JudasIscariot: Umm we do? It might be looking a bit skimpy atm because we cleared out a few games from Upcoming to New :)
avatar
JinseiNGC224: I think once Crawl gets removed it will feel like a clean slate on the upcoming tab. Maybe then people will feel different ;)

That said....Crawl unofficially confirmed!

;)
Yes, and then we can add a bunch more games...once all the finer details are worked out beforehand :)

budejovice: I really like what yesterday did to the tab. :)
Me too :D

astroclay: This may be a dumb question, but where is this "upcoming" tab I keep seeing mention of? I always thought GOG kept new releases under heavy lock and key :)
Look to the right of "NEW" :)
avatar
MacArthur: Don't know why it took so long considering that the previous games are selling extremely well here...

Let's just say that that 2 year old post you linked to doesn't exactly apply anymore :)
avatar
The-Business: Very interesting. The GOG search doesn't find the game, but it's still in the catalog.
avatar
Matruchus: Search function works just fine here. Now that you mentioned the game it might be interesting for some people to know that there is a new version of the game coming online on gog.com on 10th of November called Blood and Gold: Caribbean. It seems the devs reworked the game and are going to release it as a standalone version next to the Caribbean. Also its free for existing owners.

Ummm perhaps you mean 10th of December?

Ixamyakxim: Sounds neat! It seems like GoG is continuing its turnbased RPG assault on me ;)
Well, I was going to keep my mind out of the gutter >.>

murkki: Order of the Thorne -the King's Challenge will be released January, 26th

Hmm, I do have to admit that it is nice seeing us being named first in that update :) Thanks, Blackthorne!

IronArcturus: Is Subterrain a roguelite game?
Hmmm I don't recall it being one. Looks more like a top-down DOOM-ish game what with the base on Mars and people being all infected...

omega64: Judas, he said roguelite not roguelike. :P
Roguelite usually just refers to permadeath or procedural generation.
I think I know the difference between the two :P

omega64: Shhh, I feel like being condescending. :P
So do I :P
avatar
omega64: GOG's genre list is pretty limited though. :P
avatar
IronArcturus: Not all of the roguelike games are marked properly for some reason, like and [url=https://www.gog.com/game/risk_of_rain]Risk of Rain.
Because they aren't roguelikes.

JudasIscariot: Because they aren't roguelikes.
avatar
IronArcturus: ?

They both have procedural generation and perma-death. How are they not like the other roguelikes on GOG?
http://www.roguebasin.com/index.php?title=Berlin_Interpretation

Either read up on the Berlin Interpretation or play an actual roguelike to see what I mean :) I recommend PosChengband or even the original Rogue :)

adaliabooks: But they are two different things.

Tales of Maj'Eyal is a roguelike (I think it's the only true one we have on GoG, though I might be persuaded to call FTL a proper roguelike..), a roguelite just borrows elements of a roguelite (perma death, randomisation, punishing difficulty level) and generally tag them onto a different kind of game (like Rogue Legacy for example).

It's like calling anything that uses a first person perspective an FPS.
Sword of the Stars: The Pit is a true roguelike :)

IronArcturus: I still argue that, nowadays, a "roguelike" does not necessarily mean that the game is related to the original "Rogue." But I have to admit that the name "Procedural Death Labyrinth" from omega64 is hilariously accurate!
Oh man, the "nowadays" argument. Please, I beseech you, I'll even GIVE you an actual roguelike just so we have this hashed out once and for all :P
avatar
JudasIscariot: Sword of the Stars: The Pit is a true roguelike :)
avatar
adaliabooks: I did think there was another one, but I couldn't recall which.
Really should pick that up at some point.

And having read your link, I withdraw my assertion that FTL might be a proper roguelike, second thoughts suggest it's just a roguelite too.
It's a great game but in the end it's a real-time space ship and crew management game with procedural planet and event placement :)

Not a roguelike :P
avatar
Marioface5: Similarly, "roguelike" now usually refers to any game with procedural/random elements and permadeath, regardless of its actual genre.
And that drives me up the wall and around the corner. Seriously, it's my only pet peeve...
