== BUG REPORTING ==

Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

DubConqueror: Currently I have 4 GOG games installed (the old way, before the client). I tried to add them manually to Galaxy, but only managed to do so for Baldur's Gate EE and Baldur's Gate II EE.

Galaxy failed to find Jack Keane and Ghost Recon, even when pointing Galaxy to the game folder itself.

lostwolfe: you got keaned again? ;)
Double Keaned! I own both JK 1 & 2. The game is actually reasonably fun to play, with a tongue-in-cheek style sense of humour.
Obviously GOG should never reveal anyone's personal data without consent - if they want to allow profiles they should be optional and default to private. And I want the way to turn off any form of recording/gathering data from user activities. Some of that is already there in settings but greyed out so I suppose they are already aware of the need for that, and will get to it eventually. As of now, I'm fine with ignoring my privacy concerns for the sake of testing features and bugtracking, and would leave them on anyway because of it.

However, I definitely think you should be able to click on a forum poster and get 'find all user posts' when figuring out wether you want to accept or deny someone's request. Publicly made posts are not subject of privacy concerns, and they can tell you if someone is scammer or spent his lifetime begging for free games, or worse. That's public as it is, and not making access to it easier is just unnecessary annoyance that doesn't help anyone.

If gog finally managed to implement this, it would be an improvement for the whole website as well. Many people have been waiting for this for years.

I picked up Jack Keane 1 on Shinyloot ages ago for $1 I think not long after the GOG promo as my interest was slightly piqued and the sale in question had other games that looked interesting too so I just whimsically added it to my cart. I've never installed it yet though. Kind of felt a little guilty for not buying it here though too, but crap... it was $1 so... :) Now I feel dirty for publicly admitting it too. LOL

Pretty much agree with everything you said, but I'm sure GOG will do this for the stable non-beta release anyway. As for searching people in forums, just go to "General Discussion" and then type their nick or copy and paste it into the search field and hit enter. Search results will only show their nick being hilighted in replies I think, but you can open a given thread in a different browser tab, then hit the close button on the search query and it'll unveil the whole thread and you can CTRL+F their nick to see their comments. Repeat in different threads until you get an idea. Mind you it's a bit too much effort to go through when you open up your notifications and have 10 showing up suddenly too. :)

@ Venom ,
Would be a lot easier for people to navigate to e.g. here if you did as I have suggested here :
Permanent menu entry in Galaxy client to relevant forum :
http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy/permanent_menu_entry_in_galaxy_client_to_relevant_forum
I think best way to show our troubling with client is sharing our log files with devs. I've tried to add my logs over the comment section but unfortunately it not letting me to add. It says should be only image format. So what should I do?

The thing is that the logs should not be shared here. The best thing is to put them on
http://mantis.gog.com
Since that is the tool for reporting troubles and errors with the logs attached.
You can also submit your Galaxy client logs as a zip file via email at: galaxy-client-support@gog.com

I see. will try that way, thanks.
Still would have been a heck of a lot easier for people if they had just put a menu link into the client (as suggested by me) to forum / internet pages pages with links to all that rather than people have to dig and ask around and bookmark pages and what not.
Of course the obvious weakness in that is that the client would have to be working for people to use that why there of course also would need to be an easy to find link on the GOG site to a page for people to get help with the GOG client....
I was in a discussion about GOG Galaxy elsewhere, then realised it would be more relevant if I copied some of it to GOG's forum. As long as it is always optional then I suppose it will offer the best of both worlds, but I can’t see that I’ll ever use this. I really like browsing my library then just downloading the .exe to my desktop to install (or save for later). But then again, I am not the target for this kind of thing.

– Auto-patching (irrelevant to me – I download and install a game, play it until I am bored or it is complete, then uninstall it)
– Friends (no, I use email and Facebook for that. I don’t even have any friends in my Steam client).
– Chat (see above)
– Stats (I’m only interested in ones within the game)
– Achievements (hate these, turned off in Steam)
– Matchmaking (I generally only play multiplayer games either locally or via LAN)

I imagine that for people who do like the features above this optional tool could be something to make GOG more attractive to them though.

In another thread I was asked why I hate achievements. The reasons I gave were: they just seem extraneous to the game itself. If I play Heroes of Might and Magic 2 the achievement is to win the mission/campaign (and have fun doing so). External things like “collect 100 wood” don’t add to the fun or central goal, they’re just boring distractions. To me, if a game is fun to play, explore, experience, then you don’t need external reinforcement (which is what achievements remind me of, like those “Very good!” stickers and stamps that got put after our work at junior school). And if the game isn’t fun to play, explore, experience, then it isn’t worth my time. Sometimes when I’m playing round I do create my own extra goals, but that’s choice, part of playing, going with my whims. I don’t need anyone else to tell me to do that. In fact, it would take some of the fun away.

I vaguely remember being really immersed in games sometimes on Steam, and suddenly there’d be some silly popup, “Iron Award – You Saved 10 Bullets!” or somesuch, totally ruining the experience. Imagine being at the cinema, during a tense scene, and little popups in the corner kept reminding you to buy popcorn in the break, or saying you were doing well for concentrating for that long. Immersion-breaking, distracting, and vaguely patronising. I suppose those three things sum up how I feel about “achievements”.

I should add that I have come to realise that some people like them, that’s fine. I am not _against_ them if they add to other people’s enjoyment. I just think they should be optional – some setting you click that lets you always see them or never see them. That way everybody’s happy. The problem right now is that many systems (such as Steam) don’t give you the choice, and that leads to debates and polarisation, but there’s no reason why everyone can’t be happy.

I was also asked about my multiplayer gaming habits and LAN, why I do it that way (rather than via Steam etc). It's because I only play games with one or two friends or family and I think only one of them uses Steam. I like to know the people I’m playing with, so we can chat and joke around while playing, as with a boardgame, and maybe talk about it afterwards. The main games I played via LAN (or LAN over Internet): Aliens vs Predator (1); Earth 2150; HOMM2 and 3; Isle of the Four Winds; (maybe others). Loads of local multiplayer, usually with one of my nephews. I will try a Lego game with them next. I have tried other multiplayer games, played with strangers, but the experience has varied on a scale between bland and irritating.

Just my thoughts - not against GOG Galaxy, but I can't see me using it, so I hope it will always be optional.

A)
Go to this page http://www.gog.com/galaxy
and click at "Discover our vision" graphics to start info movie to get the information that you seem to be in need of !

B)
Read page : http://www.gog.com/galaxy

C)
You like to download stuff ? , page (http://www.gog.com/galaxy ) says clearly : "Backup copy download"

D)
Info movie and page ( http://www.gog.com/galaxy ) clearly says that client will always be optional AND that you can choose to use only the features that you want to use or like to use.

E)
GOG downloader IMO is a really great apparatus , the Galaxy client is only to be seen as a natural development of the original downloader and while the original downloader as stated by GOG will continue to work then though GOG won't break functionality deliberately then they at this point won't guarantee that it will not break at some point.

Finally ! :
I completely understand where you are coming from and as I wrote over at the alpha thread (some spelling errors have been corrected) then :

Personally I think it both optimal solution, and also best psychology towards those who in principle are opposing a client , if the client on most basic level acts a sort of download and install manager where people can download the DRM FREE install files to hard drive and then later e.g. just use the Client as install manager if it pleases them , and Vice versa , e.g. use and save the files downloaded by the client as manually DRM FREE game install files...

(because that's basically what I want first and foremost !!! )

A refreshingly balanced and civil viewpoint! The forums could use more of these on just about any topic regardless of the particular view IMHO. In particular I'm glad to see someone not only express their own preferences and desired experience but to also respect that other people may have other preference/desired experience and that having such options is good for everyone to decide what they prefer - another rarity here in the forums quite often - and it is due to the high level of intense polarization much as you've suggested as well.

Everyone is never likely to agree about what they personally like to see or have or experience, but what always baffles my mind is how many people not only want to have what they want to have 300% of the time, that they don't even remotely care what other people want to have, and worse - they dramatically oppose the mere thought of there even being an option, even if the option were to default to what they want and someone else has to change it. They're just opposed to there even being an option, even one that has no effect whatsoever on them! It's IMHO very self-centred thinking, often if not usually with entitlement mentality and complete intolerance for opposing views that simply promote options that would have no effect on the other person other than just existing for someone else to use who chooses to.

Personally, I'm always in favour of new options for things whether they are options for things I favour or things I am neutral about or things I'm not particularly fond of. If it's an option - I don't have to use or care about it really. But then I also don't keep my mind focussed in the worst case doomsday scenario way of thinking like some people are obsessed with either - where they area always constantly suspicious of the worst and have their defences up and are constantly ready to burn the witch and looking for every opportunity to judge and criticize whether it is rational or not. It's very unhealthy to think that way constantly, and not just for others but also for the person who thinks that way whether they realize it or not.

My thoughts about some of the preferences you shared are similar in many ways although I've softened up to some things over time to be neutral or in some cases to embrace some features that have turned out to be useful. As a general rule I like the option to be available for auto-patching for example, although I disable it by default. Not because I don't want my games up to date, but because I have tonnes of them installed and there's no sense them updating automatically 10 times if I'm not playing them actively. So I turn that off, and when I actually go to play a game I let it update itself right then. I've got 25Mbps Internet so that process happens fast enough that I don't feel inconveniences the very rare times that it ever happens (almost never).

I find the friend-chat stuff on Steam to be useful for some limited communicating with friends although we do have other channels that we use too. When I'm in-game though I like to be able to bring up the Steam overlay to fire off a quick message/reminder or something to someone or similar if it is useful to do so, and ALT-TAB out of some games (ie: Skyrim) causes the game to basically puke and require a restart unless you MOD the shit out of it which I couldn't be bothered with.

I have a look at achievements to see what I've gotten from time to time in some games but truthfully I really don't give a crap if that was there or not, I just look at it out of idle curiousity sometimes but it could vanish tomorrow and I wouldn't miss it.

I rarely ever use online multiplayer matchmaking of any kind, but I do like to have the option for that and rarely do use it although my preferred multiplayer mode is LAN play.

Your comments about achievements popping up etc. made me crack up, pretty funny. :) Some achievements in many games are completely stupid, so stupid that you can almost feel yourself getting dumber when the notification for it pops up. :)

But, I do understand that multitudes of people love that stuff and trading cards and other stuff that I'm indifferent about or annoyed by, and as long as none of it is really forced on me in a way I can't ignore, I don't see any problem whatsoever with it if it makes someone else's experience better.

Indeed, optional is good - no, it's great. :)

Thanks again for the refreshing diversion from the norm. :)

I don't dispute what you say, but why would I install extra software to do what I already do with no problems without that software? To someone like me I would be installing it for no purpose (I never used the GOG downloader, it seemed pointless when I could click on the game file and download it to my desktop that way). I did read up on Galaxy, it is just that it is a combination of features I can do without it, and features I wouldn't use.

So, not poo-pooing Galaxy, just trying to clarify that those features are already things I can do. Cheers!

skeletonbow: A refreshingly balanced and civil viewpoint!

Thanks again for the refreshing diversion from the norm. :)
Thanks for spotting it! I certainly don't want to be negative about a new feature that has obviously been a lot of work for GOG, and which will be useful to many. Sometimes you worry that you'll be taken as negative just for saying that you personally won't probably use it and why, but I'm glad that wasn't the case.

I think the two things I'd most love from GOG in the future would be:
- More of the games that only seem to go on Steam so that I can buy them on GOG instead (I realise GOG can't control that, only try and influence).
- A better shelf list of games in the browser. Unfortunately the recent unbundling made my shelf even more unwieldy and confusing, for reasons discussed elsewhere, and there were comments that it was more of a mess and less of a development priority _because_ of GOG Galaxy. Still, I hope Galaxy goes smoothly, then attention can go back to better game shelf options!

Looking pretty good so far, I'm liking the direction this is going in
