== BUG REPORTING ==

Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

========================================================================================

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

kdgog: I think the two things I'd most love from GOG in the future would be:
- More of the games that only seem to go on Steam so that I can buy them on GOG instead (I realise GOG can't control that, only try and influence).
- A better shelf list of games in the browser. Unfortunately the recent unbundling made my shelf even more unwieldy and confusing, for reasons discussed elsewhere, and there were comments that it was more of a mess and less of a development priority _because_ of GOG Galaxy. Still, I hope Galaxy goes smoothly, then attention can go back to better game shelf options!
You'd be hard pressed to not receive universal violent agreement on both of those points I think, but then I'd also bet some money that there's at least one contrarian out there too. :)
So uhm, I imported POE into Galaxy. But I've already done manual patching to the latest patch. I notice POE and a few other games are auto-updating and Galaxy is downloading 3gbs worth of whatever data there is. I aborted it since the game is already updated to the newest patch by me. Not sure what it's downloading?

Covered under known-issues in the first post. (The one that says PLEASE READ THIS FIRST) :)

kdgog: I was in a discussion about GOG Galaxy elsewhere, then realised it would be more relevant if I copied some of it to GOG's forum. As long as it is always optional then I suppose it will offer the best of both worlds, but I can’t see that I’ll ever use this. I really like browsing my library then just downloading the .exe to my desktop to install (or save for later). But then again, I am not the target for this kind of thing.

Just my thoughts - not against GOG Galaxy, but I can't see me using it, so I hope it will always be optional.

skeletonbow: A refreshingly balanced and civil viewpoint! The forums could use more of these on just about any topic regardless of the particular view IMHO. In particular I'm glad to see someone not only express their own preferences and desired experience but to also respect that other people may have other preference/desired experience and that having such options is good for everyone to decide what they prefer - another rarity here in the forums quite often - and it is due to the high level of intense polarization much as you've suggested as well.

Thanks again for the refreshing diversion from the norm. :)
First of all I got NOTHING against kdgog but I still think that you are plain wrong in the way you comprehend his writing....
Surely I agree as far as that kdgog presents a somewhat "balanced and civil viewpoint!" however if thinking a little you will discover that it's all mostly the usual "I am so tolerant towards others" as long as I get it my way but that is not the problem with the "opposing" part.....
Problem is that it either builds on opposing just for the sake of opposing (where no need is) or by taking the wrong angle on stuff..

E.g. comparison to Steam and pop ups and what not :
1)
In game Steam overlay can be completely turned off , and in game messages can to at least some degree be customized if wanting to use.
2)
The use of features such as multiplayer , chat on Steam is completely optional , in fact the whole "friends system" on Steam are optional , and if I am not wrong then the whole "community feature" of Steam is completely optional , as far as I know then you can install Steam and opt. to never use or log in to the community , in fact the community "alias" at Steam is different than that you choose as your log in name....

So as far as I am concerned critique failed at that part
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hopefully everything GOG Galaxy client will be equally optional and if not then we must ask that WILL BE !!!!

Anyone SUPERFICIALLY reading this or really not understanding what is that I write or MY point could misunderstand this as a personal attack on "kdgog" which it is NOT !!!
However , I have been down this road many times , "kdgog" appear to be a somewhat typical "not that young user" that haves typically "not that young user" attitudes (besides the use of Facebook) and opinions... And that kind of user generally tends to focus on the "I don't like" (than seeing that "it's completely optional" so no need to make any fuzz over that...)
IN FACT , I myself are not that young and I for the greater part sympathize with "kdgog´s" attitudes - only I am one of the "brainiacs" that came up with the "client" idea as "manager" in the first place ( reference here ) as
A) I am lazy
and
B) I want GOG to become the norm and the WINNER , and while GOG might perhaps not be able to beat a place such as Steam because Steam has so many users and gained such momentum , then "ACCESSIBILITY" is a key word here as modern society makes people into "users" and for users it has to be easy like click a button like on Steam... So GOG needs to do the seemingly impossible , which is to cater to the present GOG CORE customers (which is guys such as "kdgog" and I ) while at the same time cater to people that is less computer savvy and people that needs stuff to be easy for them to be able to use it (personally I don't need stuff to be easy to access I just like if it is as it saves me work and time !!) ...

This post were born out of what I comprehends to be "skeletonbow's" glorification of "kdgog" 's post - a "glorification" I think wrong !

kdgog: I don't dispute what you say, but why would I install extra software to do what I already do with no problems without that software? To someone like me I would be installing it for no purpose (I never used the GOG downloader, it seemed pointless when I could click on the game file and download it to my desktop that way). I did read up on Galaxy, it is just that it is a combination of features I can do without it, and features I wouldn't use.

So, not poo-pooing Galaxy, just trying to clarify that those features are already things I can do. Cheers!
Sorry I think that you are plain wrong there...
Yeah , maybe you don't like to install and use software to download , but I for one surely wouldn't like to be without the GOG downloader as I consider it one of the greatest and nifty downloader apparatus / tools around..
So for me no doubt that I would have to install a piece of software anyway ..
The Client hopefully can be used just like the present GOG downloader can to just manage your downloads (with the addition of being able to work as an install manger too) and if it can not then I will join the "choir" to which you apparently belong ;) :P

P.S.
As part of understanding my preferences then perhaps it is a bit easier to understand them if I tell you that prior to the splitting of games collection into more games on GOG shelf then I had more than 700 games on GOG so I have surely enjoyed the old GOG downloader and would surely enjoy the ease of a combined download and install manager as I expect the client to be able to act as...

gaddarmice: I have had some kinda lag in chat and friends list screen. Looks like things not work in real time on client. Mostly I have to restart client to get new notification like who added me or who typed on chat screen. Just like restarting client from alpha to get update beta build phase.
Chat itself worked generally okay for me, though Judas reported some lag, ironically enough since he works inside GOG. The Friends list need to refresh more often, or be responsive to a push-refresh, as it does just seem to sit there. I had to close and reopen mine as well to pick up new friends.
Is there a changelog listing changes between the last alpha and first beta anywhere?

In case that you have "a pipeline" into GOG through your friendship with "Judas" then I would like to suggest a focus more on "lightweight" and reliability than on can everything within a split second (even Steam can't do "everything in a split second" or lightweight because they wanna do so much.. And the last thing we need is another (in-between) semi freezing apparatus like the Steam client (only recently manged they to cut load and time significantly when users with many games redeemed Steam keys) So trust me , ROCKSOLID , lightweight and responsive is far better than can do everything online...
A lot of nice features is OK , but not if price is a client that is either too resource hogging / hungry , unresponsive , semi freezing in between or whatever like that

Ref: <span class="podkreslenie">also comment here</span> ( this is like a really nice response to get I think ;) ) :

Steam, but zero bullshit and zero requirement. GOG, you've really done it. I'm done with Steam and all its bullshit, from now on I'm strictly a GOG, Origin, and Amazon customer.

Thanks for the client, it's the one thing that was missing.

Well I'm glad that you agree with me that his dialogue was balanced and civil, but find it rather interesting that you then judge and criticize him for it. Very clever! Oh, and unexpected! Kind of like the Spanish Inquisition, although maybe just slightly less clever. I can't completely decide though. Definitely in the same ballpark for sure.

Also intriguing as I didn't really see any critique per se, but rather an expression of personal taste and opinion with some mild cynical tongue-in-cheek humour thrown in for good measure. I chuckled visualizing what he was saying and picturing him reacting to it. Definitely put a smile on my face.

Usually when someone prefixes something they are about to say with a statement like that it is usually a sign that they're about to do what they say they're not doing. :) Kind of like when someone says "I'm not a racist but ... <insert racist comment here>" or similar. But we don't know yet so lets not jump to any conclusions yet ...

For someone you're not issuing personal attacks on and that you agree has a balanced and civil viewpoint, you sure appear to like to judge and criticize. But that's not a form of personal attack, no no no! :)

I'm confused as it appears you can't seem to decide if you actually agree with him and respect his personal opinion or not. Your judgment and criticism does send an unclear mixed message though.

As he alluded to in his post, people can and do often lead to highly polarized views and argue and debate about it. That is also my own observation and it is rare that someone else recognizes that and points it out in the forums. I found it rather refreshing to see someone confident enough to not only express such an opinion here but to do it in a civil and intelligent manner. I hold no shame in sharing my opinion in responding to people who write things that are pleasant to read and which I find to be different (in a good way) from a fair amount of the often highly vitriolic polarized discussion that occurs in the forums fairly regularly.

That's the problem in online communities is that they're often not only highly polarized and uncivil towards each other, but they are very quick to criticize others and point out their flaws and disagree with them to a point sometimes where it looks like they are going out of their way to try to even find something to disagree with, but when people are actually civil with each other and express positive thoughts or praise each other someone will find a way to criticize them for that too, both illustrating and confirming the inherent polarization and general negativity/hostility present.

What I respect about kdgog's way of phrasing himself is that he was able to express his own preferences in what I consider a civil manner, but indicate that he recognizes the value in other people's needs as well and appears to respect them having the option to have things the way they'd like to have it. IMHO it isn't often that someone expresses themselves in the forums in this way because it essentially is in opposition to the all too common sense of entitlement mentality many people in the forums have and demonstrate regularly, and to speak out in a manner that embraces the opposite of that is to risk drawing the ire from those who have it and many people are either too afraid to put themselves in that position or simply wish to avoid any even remote possibility of conflict so they choose silence instead.

I'm not one of those people though. I've no fear of praising someone whom I think brings a valuable voice/viewpoint to a conversation whether I agree with them in part or full or not at all - if I think the manner in which they communicate with others is a civil improvement over a lot of how I see others communicating rather regularly.

If someone wants to criticize, judge or ridicule me for welcoming a net positive voice to a conversation well sobeit, but that wont stop me from sharing my opinion or praise if I see fit to do so, and it ultimately speaks tomes more about the person doing the judging and criticizing than anything negative about me.

If everyone tried to say something nice/kind even just once a day to someone else even whom they disagree with, or to avoid judging, criticizing, blaming, insulting or making demands on others more, the world would be a lot better place and on a lot better path. We all work better when we can work together and communicate civil with each other.

But if anyone feels hostile negative energy and the need to judge or criticize me for expressing any of the above, by all means go ahead whether it is an burning need and meant, or whether it is simply a joking form of humorous expression. It wont soil my mood, and I wont hold it against anyone in the future either. Life is too short! There's enough negative energy to probably solve the world's energy needs just in Youtube video comments alone. All we need is someone like Elon Musk to figure out how to tap into it. :)
The Friend Request notification seem to work now, as in it disappears after accepted.

Personally II think it a bit sloppy that they don't even have a "change log" at "http://mantis.gog.com" but they most likely prioritize development and plain getting stuff done rather than channeling the resources into keeping a semi-public change log (?)
Do you think there will be customization available after it comes out of beta? I'm talking about all kinds of customization here, themes, Barefoot Essentials-like additional functionalities, ability to tweak with port and proxy settings, etc.

I imagine there IS one on there, you just can't see it with standard 'reporter' level access - it's probably too in depth and technical for public consumption anyway, probably gives away too much about what's going on 'under the hood' too!

I was asking more for the public, edited highlights that we used to get on the alpha thread...

I DID NOT WRITE ANY RESPONSE TO "kdgog's" post initially , I didn't feel the need to ,
your "glorification" is the only thing that made a comment necessary as far as I am concerned - otherwise I wouldn't have cared and let it slide.. I wrote that rather clearly when I wrote : This post were born out of what I comprehends to be "skeletonbow's" glorification of "kdgog" 's post - a "glorification" I think wrong !

So ALL your trying to split hairs and your pretending to "be not sure about this or that" as basis for your ramblings are really OFF the mark !!!

Yes , it's OK and even nice to give praise where praise is required , but as written I think that your praise builds on a misunderstanding (or lack of ability to comprehend) "kdgog" writing...

And as for your comprehension of if "someone prefixes something" then YOU just proved my point and the necessity for me to state THAT I DID as you have spent an abundance of words trying to belittle me , twist my words , or paint me as criticizing "kdgog" as person , which I have tried to not do..

But You seem to be unable to read other than in your smart-ass mode (try using your head) so discussing this with you is a total waste of time I guess ....
