MrPopo: It looks like it's an integrated DOSbox with the original files so that they could seamlessly have the upscaling and the new portraits and sound additions. One of the menu options includes a readme which has a link to the modified DOSbox source and the DOSbox license. It's similar to how they packaged an Apple II emulator into Bard's Tale so you could play the first three games and had a little GUI for doing disk swapping, rather than needing to know specific commands for the emulator.
I don't like this. AFAICT, this game can't run in DOSBox as the game itself is now effectively a Windows game. I hope this is just a one off for GOG as I really don't relish the future where even the DOS games here can't be made to run in DOSBox without a lot of hassles.
Daliz: For linux users who didn't read the email - A DRM free version of WL1 is on the way:
We understood from our Linux fans that Steam-only distribution was
not desirable, so we are holding on the Linux launch until it will be
available on more than one platform and in at least one completely
DRM-free fashion, if desired. We will have a subsequent announcement
regarding Wasteland 1 – The Original Classic for Linux very soon.
Daliz: That's nice, although seeing as this version apparently has DOSBox integrated directly into it, I really hope that they don't do something similar with the Linux version. I'm wanting to play on a non-X86 machine and that requires me to run DOSBox, Wine won't cut it as it isn't an emulator.
