Look over there! It's a three-headed…tentacle?

Celebrated classics The Curse of Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion (-33%) return, DRM-free on GOG.com.
To celebrate, The Secret of Monkey Island: SE and Monkey Island 2: SE are 65% off until March 26, 2PM UTC. Get them together with Curse of Monkey Island for an additional 25% bundle discount.

The Curse of Monkey Island
Meet Guybrush Threepwood. He's stranded mid-ocean atop a bumper car, he's hungry, thirsty, and much, much taller than you remember him. Yet still as determined as ever to save Elaine from the clutches of his undead nemesis, the evil pirate LeChuck. After his wedding proposal goes terribly awry, he will join a barbershop quartet, curb the enthusiasm of a demonic skull bent on world domination, and quite possibly die while trying to lift The Curse of Monkey Island. All in a day's work.

Maniac Mansion
Oh no, Sandy got abducted by the eccentric, quite possibly deranged Dr. Fred! Surely this has nothing to do with the comet that landed outside his Maniac Mansion 20 years ago or the two sentient tentacles running around the premises, right? Just in case, though, Dave picks two friends (out of seven in total - Dave is a popular guy!) and ventures into Ron Gilbert's classic point & click adventure, which reshaped the whole genre and later inspired a little sequel called Day of the Tentacle.

HeartsAndRainbows: In both cases the games are marked as "This game is powered by ScummVM." on the gamecards - in a really small font and in the most awkward position possible - right above the GOGmixes which get no love at all...
...but I digress. It would seem "Yes" is the answer to your question. Otherwise Disney would have had to spend money to build an in-house solution. ...And we all know how much Disney has to struggle to push copyright laws to expand their boundaries even further- ...but I digress.

SirPrimalform: Thanks! Yeah, I eventually spotted that. Good to know it's literally what I already have.

StingingVelvet: Great releases, bought them ASAP to support more Lucas classics.

It would be REALLY NICE if GOG included the original versions of Monkey 1 and 2, since they have different intros and some other quirks.
avatar
SirPrimalform: The original versions can be extracted from the files and played in ScummVM.
Not only can the originals be extracted to be played using ScummVM, but one can run an easily-available tool that converts the remastered Monkey Islands into the originals but *with* full speech! Pretty awesome, IMO.

Popinjay: Were these titles discontinued on GoG? I have them in my library but don't remember the circumstances in which they were removed?
Perhaps you were thinking of Monkey Island 1 or 2 or Tales of Monkey Island, which were already available. And, since Maniac Mansion can be played from Day of the Tentacle, maybe that's why you thought you had the game already?

Yeah, I only bought the special editions because those tools exist. :)

From my point of view, I was basically just paying for the voice acting.

kbnrylaec: Labyrinth have no IBM PC version, and does not supported by ScummVM.
I do not think GOG will sell it.

teceem: DOS emulator or C64/Apple II emulator; I don't see any technical issues. What might be more relevant: it was published by Activision - so likely that Disney doesn't own the rights to this one.
I don't know who owns the game but definitely there are legal and profitability issues, the rights of the movie aren't owned by Disney and I don't think the game can be expected to sell enough to make it worth a license renewal. I'm not sure about the emulators, if they use proprietary code from Commodores/Apple/whoever then there's a problem, if not then I guess someone should at least prepare the emu/game to not show any branding or logo of those companies.
Curse of Monkey Island is my favorite game of all time (except for those two months when I was stuck in...er...on the quicksand puzzle)! It's a beautiful little game, polished in every way. The fourth game, Escape from Monkey Island, didn't quiiiiite live up to that, but it's better-than-average, and I hope it is available soon, too. I still have the discs, but they had a tendency to crash as early as Windows 2000. I am now feeling very old...

That's really cool. I just assumed the SEs would have blocked ScummVM access. Does the "tool" you mention turn of subtitles? That would be epic. Also you can probably link to it, I can't see why GOG would care. I'll google around though. Thanks again.
Woke up this morning to the fantastic news that CMI has ben released! Thank you GOG!

Literally jumped out of bed, logged on and purchased it. Am squealing like a kid that just discovered a cupboard full of candy... or like me when I discover a pack of bacon in the fridge.
Curse of the Monkey Island is probably my favourite Lucasarts game, I'm just annoyed I brought a physical copy only last year.

However I saw this on the game description:

"A barrel of gameplay - estimated 30-plus hours!"

I don't recall it taking anywhere near that long. 10 hours at most.
The Curse of Monkey Island feels like playing a really funny cartoon that awards you with the next piece of story for completing puzzles. It is, if possible, even better than I remember it. It surpassed the rose tinted nostalgia hype.

GOG's discount system is inconsistent again.
Select all 3 games in the Monkey Island Special Promo: $10.48
BUY SERIES discount for all 3 games above: $13.97

If you bought Monkey Island games with a higher price, do not forget to contact GOG Support and get a refund.

First time through without checking an FAQ I could see 20 or so, but 30 seems like a stretch.

i_hope_you_rot: [Meteor Mess 3D]
Meteor Mess seems like a fitting title. Do not want.
Great now if we just get GOG to release the rest of the Star Trek games that need releasing like A Final Unity.
