Super Sonic Speedsters!

Freedom Planet, a very loopy and twisty arcade platformer where speed is king, just like the good old 16-bit times, is available 50% off for a week, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Freedom Planet is a combat-based platform adventure that pits a spunky dragon girl and her friends against an alien attack force. It’s fast and frantic – you’ll fly through the air at high speed like a comet, bust through foes with a flurry of punches or summon motorcycles that let you ride up walls and ceilings. With colorful retro artwork, an adorable cast, and tight but varied gameplay, it’s no wonder Freedom Planet is critically acclaimed as the Sonic successor we’ve all been waiting for.

Save the world like you usually do, but this time be real quick and fancy about it, in Freedom Planet, on GOG.com. The -50% special release discount will last until Tuesday, December 9, at 10:59AM GMT.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

Want to see Jesse Cox taking on the many super-sonic challenges of Freedom Planet, over at ? We've recorded the whole thing for you on our vintage VCR! Here's [url=http://www.twitch.tv/gogcom/b/596407763]part one, and here's part two of the stream archive!

HiPhish: OK, I'm done with the demo. The developers can report back when they have learned how to program on a PC. Also, WTF kind of demo is this where you can only play time trial!?
the second "stage" is a real level and that wasn't half bad. It was pretty good actually. A bit slippery but it played better then almost every sonic game released in the past decade.

Wishlisted for now due to lack of money.

EDIT: anybody knows how big the campaign is (don't care for time trials)?

Wow, never heard of it before and it looks really cool, it's like the result of mixing a 16bits Sonic with Gunstar Heroes and some others classic platformers for SEGA machines.
I have a MIGHTY NEED!

On the surface this looks just like a bunch of Sonic's cousins but it actually seems to offer a bit more than that.
Hmmm.... looks interesting :-) On the wishlist for now since I don't know yet when I would have time to play it.
Tried the demo. Not very impressed. Bad controls. Maybe will buy it when its on sale.
The game looks promising. Feels very sonic-like, and as i can tell, i'm not the only one who gets that impression. Most likely i'll pick it up on sale later when the discount is a little higher. In the meantime, going to buy Pixel Piracy! Arrr!

It has around 10 big stages.

If you rush through the stages you can beat each stage in 6-10 minutes (assuming you never die).

If you want to collect as many crystals as possible and find all the secret cards you often spend almost an hour in a stage, though.

So while you can probably finish the game in 1-2 hours, there is a lot of replay value. To get all the secrets and play the game through with all characters, it probably takes 10-20 hours.

I think where the game really shines is when you start playing the stages via Time Attack Mode, though. Rushing through them as fast as possible trying to beat your own time again and again is where most of the fun was for me (I don't mean the time trial stages, those are boring, I mean playing the real stages and trying to be as fast as possible).
Not heard of this, but with all the Sonic comparisons thrown about this sounds like a must.
It's been 20 years since we last had a truly great Sonic game. Hope this fills the void.
Great release, GOG!

Article link doesn't seem to work for me.
I'm not big on platformers but something about this one looks interesting to me. However I'm broke but this is going on my wishlist. There is a nice review on there about not assuming this is a Sonic ripoff which keyed me in and I mention that only to show that sometimes the reviews actually can be helpful. :D
Nice to see that GOG and the developers listened to the Wishlist entry that I created some time ago
What's Sonic doing on my PC??? LOL

and why is he cross dressing :P
