Super Sonic Speedsters!

Freedom Planet, a very loopy and twisty arcade platformer where speed is king, just like the good old 16-bit times, is available 50% off for a week, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Freedom Planet is a combat-based platform adventure that pits a spunky dragon girl and her friends against an alien attack force. It’s fast and frantic – you’ll fly through the air at high speed like a comet, bust through foes with a flurry of punches or summon motorcycles that let you ride up walls and ceilings. With colorful retro artwork, an adorable cast, and tight but varied gameplay, it’s no wonder Freedom Planet is critically acclaimed as the Sonic successor we’ve all been waiting for.

Save the world like you usually do, but this time be real quick and fancy about it, in Freedom Planet, on GOG.com. The -50% special release discount will last until Tuesday, December 9, at 10:59AM GMT.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

Want to see Jesse Cox taking on the many super-sonic challenges of Freedom Planet, over at ? We've recorded the whole thing for you on our vintage VCR! Here's part one, and here's part two of the stream archive!

This game is roughly what we would have gotten if Treasure(Gunstar Heroes) had been hired to developed a Sonic game on the Genesis.

Also, why no GNU/Linux Wine wrap like OSX?

About time. I really wonder what kept GOG from adding this o e originally.
I'm very happy to see this game arrive on GOG and am glad I held off on buying it on Steam.
Looks like a mix of Sonic, Rocket Knight and some others. In other words: awesome!

vicklemos: Great release, GOG!
Just searched freedom planet linux on google and got this:

Freedom Planet Probably Coming To Linux
http://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/freedom-planet-probably-coming-to-linux.1652?module=articles_full&aid=1652&title=freedom-planet-probably-coming-to-linux

dated january 2013 :(
almost 2 years old and still no signs of linux support :(
The Mac demo is just the Windows version wrapped in Wine, so I doubt the Linux version would have been a native port.
I think I remember reading about this game. Was Cristina Vee in it?

well I don't wanna brag GOG/developers about linux ports (haha) but for it really doens't matter if it's a wrapper or not
I'm here just for the fun! :)

Niggles: Sadly this is one of those where the soundtrack doesnt come with it..geeez....
Well, unless they changed things dramatically from the Steam version, the music files used in the game are available in ogg/vorbis format under <install folder>\Data\BGM anyway. Sure, Steam sells the OST seperately (and with some extra tracks and clear labels), but the music available to use in any decent media player.
This game looked interesting! So is it really like Sonic?
Doom may be the first game I tried, but Sonic is the first one I have really played! :)

Later, I will download the demo and see how good it is!

Appreciate the links, Barry. Odd that there's a Mac demo for a Windows only release... (same availability on steam)

Will pick it up down the road.

I'd say it's more of a mix of the best of Genesis platformers. There's a lot of Sonic, but also a bit of Ristar, Rocket Knight, and other stuff thrown in as well.
Looks like a solid game with good reviews, but I am disappointed we didn't get an unexpected classic, a AAA title, or even a timer for more LucasArts games.

Another week with no classics as it seems. The games to be released on Thursday are Crimzon Clover and Dead State.
Unless you count AVP from the previous week, but I personally don't. :P
