Super Sonic Speedsters!

Freedom Planet, a very loopy and twisty arcade platformer where speed is king, just like the good old 16-bit times, is available 50% off for a week, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Freedom Planet is a combat-based platform adventure that pits a spunky dragon girl and her friends against an alien attack force. It’s fast and frantic – you’ll fly through the air at high speed like a comet, bust through foes with a flurry of punches or summon motorcycles that let you ride up walls and ceilings. With colorful retro artwork, an adorable cast, and tight but varied gameplay, it’s no wonder Freedom Planet is critically acclaimed as the Sonic successor we’ve all been waiting for.

Save the world like you usually do, but this time be real quick and fancy about it, in Freedom Planet, on GOG.com. The -50% special release discount will last until Tuesday, December 9, at 10:59AM GMT.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

Want to see Jesse Cox taking on the many super-sonic challenges of Freedom Planet, over at ? We've recorded the whole thing for you on our vintage VCR! Here's [url=http://www.twitch.tv/gogcom/b/596407763]part one, and here's part two of the stream archive!

G-Doc: This is a... *BUMPTY!* to remind y'all about the special stream with Jesse Cox starting in about 19 hours!

As for the OST - there's a good chance someone from the dev team will be present on the Twitch chat during the stream, so why don't you drop by and ask them ;-)

Don't have a twitch account. :P
Hope someone else will ask them. :)

Skunk: I'm still holding out for the Humble Store version, which mysteriously lists Macintosh support, that isn't listed here or on Steam.

Retrostage: The Mac support is actually kind of a fake:

Unfortunately, Windows is the only platform that's 100% supported. You can attempt to run the game on a Mac using a Windows emulator, but expect performance to be far slower than usual.

Retrostage:
Mac performance is fine IF you don't tell the game to scale more than 2x, and instead use display zooming to enlarge. I understand that Fusion is pretty bad at scaling on Windows also.

You can vote for it on the wishlist

Skunk: I suspected as much. I've seen plenty of cases where "Linux support" translates to Wine, Adobe Air, or a port that was whipped up with ten minutes and a compiler. I don't use Mac at all, but I thought it was worth mentioning. And I figure this game was very likely made with software that only supports Windows development, so I'm not holding my breath for Linux or much else in the way of portability.
According to reports on the WINE AppDB and the Steam forums, Freedom Planet actually (potentially) works very well on OS X and Linux through WINE -- issues with framerate drops were apparently due to them using older builds of WINE in their in-progress Mac version and in their Mac demo (which was just the PC version apparently bundled in a Wine wrapper).

In my experience, the game works fine in 2X zooming in windowed mode. However, I've had to run it using the "_noDX" .bat file.
That Freedom Planet stream was amazing. :P

"1...3...4 5! 1...*frustrated whine*"

I was put off a bit by some of the negative reviews for the game at first, but I did have fun playing the demo, and it doesn't look like it becomes as absurdly-difficult by the end as I heard it did. I ended up buying it today after watching someone else on Youtube finish the rest of the game from where Jessie left off.

So, to anyone else sitting on the fence about it like I was, I would check out the archived livestream from yesterday on the front page news section, and play the demo to see if you like the feel for it. I'm glad that I looked into it a little more in the end for myself before the sale ended.

You won't get to see the chat react to his shenanigans by watching the archive, but just picture everyone face-palming whenever he gets stuck or flies off a ledge, and you'll have gotten the gist of it. ;)

You really don't need to worry about the difficulty as the game comes with a difficulty setting you can change at any time, even midway through the game. If you get frustrated by the high difficulty, simply reduce the difficulty a little and try again. :-)
Awesome game! =)
Great music and voice acting in it! I checked the demo and now I'm hungry for the full content, but... but... ->->-> backlog. So it has to join the wishlist queue.

By the way: My PC doesn't reach the min sys req's, except the 1GB RAM. I "only" have a single core 2Ghz and a - for todays measure - lousy graphics card ...

So my recommendation to everyone who's interested in the game but is afraid of the given sys reqs: Nevertheless grab the demo and try it and have (hopefully) fun! ;)
