A brilliant combination of sci-fi movie and pulse-pounding space fighter sim, Wing Commander IV is a pinnacle of gaming excellence

Even though in the game the price of freedom is eternal vigilance, the price of Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom is only $5.99 on GOG.com.

Colonel Christopher Blair, former savior of the Confederation, has hung up his spurs and retired as a farmer on a desert world. While Blair has been enjoying the start of his well-earned retirement, a new menace has surfaced. Tensions between the outer colonies and inner Confed worlds are higher than ever. As the newly-reactivated Colonel Blair, you have to decide how to save the Confederation--or if it should be saved at all.

At the time of its release, it was the largest and most expensive video game made yet with an over-the-roof budget of $12 million. The cast was filled with SF superstars like Mark Hamill as Christopher Blair, John Rhys-Davies as James "Paladin" Taggart, Thomas F. Wilson as Todd "Maniac" Marshall, and Malcolm McDowell as Admiral Geoffrey Tolwyn. Once again, this ragged band of heroes has to save the galaxy. The Wing Commander series captured perfectly the feeling of being both a game and a movie, and Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom is arguably the most cinematic and epic game of the whole series.

The space combat is everything you expect from a WC game. It’s fast, it’s action-packed, and it’s varied, while missions range from tailing enemy ships or sneaking on an enemy base to detaining convoys and simple “kill the bad guy” battles. The music matches the game’s production value and supports the experience well. Overall, Wing Commander IV is a great addition to an excellent franchise, and will deliver a captivating experience for long-time fans and newcomers alike.

A shout-out goes to WC News for all the help they gave the GOG.com team of content-wranglers in getting the extra goodies together that you're enjoying with the release, as well as helping us source a our game master & the DVD videos! They're awesome, and if you're a fan of Wing Commander, you should definitely check them out.
Looking at the screen shots i have just realised the actor who played Vagabond was the Dharma guy in Lost. A great game and my favourite WC.
Bugger it, this lack of a joystick (thats not a metaphor) is really getting on my nerves lately, might be time to splash out on a cheapo to tide me over
Hell yea!! This finally gives my a reason to play WC 1-3 again!
Good game. Got the CD edition with the disk folder somewhere around.

EndlessKnight: I'm so pleased to see an EA game with plenty of extras included. Fantastic game.
Speaking about that - GOG, are you going to bring us more goodies for other EA games?
The best in the series, FINALLY! YAY!!

Don't go too cheapo, or you will regret it. And make sure that the joystick has one of these twistable handles (name for this feature seem to differ from manufacturer to manufacturer). It might seem like a pointless thing to someone who does not play a lot of games that requires a joystick, but this function is often used in space sims to rotate your ship (very handy), and can be used instead of pedals in many flight sims. A relatively cheap but still quite good joystick in the lower mid price range is Logitech Extreme 3D Pro (silly name...).
In GOG we trust...

Good old game - check
Low price - check
DVD-quality - check

Now THIS is why I come to GOG.com. :)
Ok, ok must keep my hand off the credit card it has waved a white flag in surrender recently. Give me 9 days and I'll be paid and can provision funds for the card. Wishlisted.

Easter is such an expensive time of year. I've been buying easter eggs for the staff on my floor (They will get a surprise Thursday morning) why does my company have to have 120-150 people on my floor?). I've always been an Easter bunny but this is a new company with more staff than ever.

So GOG will you be giving us an Easter treat, or special bunny :)
Ahhhh, now the Wing Commander saga is complete and I will be able to have a WC marathon! And at 5.99$ I can't see why anybody with enough money would pass on that release! Instabuy of course!

Now, all those games (WC, Ultima Underworld, Dungeon Keeper 2, etc.),on which i drooled back in the day because my comp was not powerful enough are mine! MINE!
6.4gb!! woah. biggest Gog yet?

Wishlisted for now..

Should still have the CD's somewhere. Although would need a CD drive still.
Thanks GOG
Nice one GOG, this ought to keep the dogs at bay. At least temporarily.
Bought.

Now I need to play the whole series, beginning to end now.
(Got a joystick, not sure if it will be 100% compatible, and its a little clunky)
