GoG,

As you can certainly tell from the forum recently, there is some worry about the lack of transparency in your game acceptance / rejection process. This worry has built into confusion about your methods and even anger regarding your perceived motives. All of this could be alleviated if you would simply do one thing:

1) release a breakdown regarding your reasonings for accepting / rejecting each game.

This would show your specific reasoning and build confidence in your system... and build greater validity to your curation. It would aid community building while keeping control of conspiracy theories and anger.

Transparency would benefit both you and the community. I hope you will see the benefits and institute making this information public.

Why do they owe you this information? Any kind of curation means someone will be mad X game didn't make it, they'd have to explain every decision about thousands of RPG Maker crap titles and whatnot. It would be insane.

Curate and people complain, don't curate and people complain. There's no answer that makes everyone happy.

Oh good, because we need another thread about this. :P

Indeed, and if they did post reasons for rejecting a game, I highly doubt the ensuing shitstorm would do anything to benefit or build the community.

Oh, curate yourself. ;)

A primary anxiety that users have is not so much the fact that games get rejected, but the seeming inconsistency of what gets rejected versus what gets accepted. Games that are seemingly tailor-made for many GOG users, are rejected for supposedly being too niche. Games that are niche of the niche, like the Grigsby wargames get accepted (I am not saying they don't belong here, though).

It would be one thing if GOG outright rejected all indie titles and only accepted titles from mainstream publishers. Or vice versa. There would be uproar, but there would at least be clear consistency. Right now, users are still wondering why certain dungeon-crawlers cannot be re-evaluated and/or accepted, when other arguably more niche ones are already on the store. As but one example.
rjbuffchix, Exactly. 100%!

Would posting breakdowns (which obviously must exist internally at GoG) make everyone happy? No, but it would make GoG's reasoning clear and consistent... even when your favorite game gets rejected, you can see the exact reason why instead of spinning conspiracy theories with growing confusion and anger. Understanding tempers anger.

It's hard for me to believe that there are people here arguing against both transparency and consistency.

Normally I wouldn't, but for the last two years over here transparency has meant "cover up EVERYTHING", so I'm thinking maybe if I argue against it, we'll actually get it.

It's kind of a reverse psychology thing. :P

They could easily have a balanced(in terms of acceptance/rejection criteria and likes/dislikes) team & better curation and it'd assuage most of the concerns some here have.

It's always fun when a sincere post is immediately met with such a passive aggressive dismissal.

Love y'all.

He's probably got ulcers. ;p
If you feel the need to post this why don't you search the forum real quick and post it in one of the hundreds of threads about this exact issue?

Nevermind, you said you knew that they existed already and still felt the need to start a new one.... I don't know why.

You feel the need to attack me for posting a solution to an issue and assume that I haven't read anything on the subject. You want to undercut my argument not on its merits (or lack thereof) but instead as superfluous spam. Gothcha. Interesting condescension.

I posted this as a new thread because the old threads are in fact "old," are pages and pages of indirect, meandering replies, and from what I read they offer no specific solutions. This thread offers a simple and very specific solution to the problem. It may not be perfect, but it is specific.

I'm sorry you're offended by people "cluttering" your message board by offering solutions. Hope you can forgive me.

Maybe I was a touch harsh. I'm just tired of these endless threads. Sorry.

You might be less tired if you stayed out of them. ;p
