amok: no. how a game plays has nothing to do with how the storefront looks
Amen.
No. The lack of good deals on games I want, and the "collections" that don't take into account games I already own, that's affected my spending this sale.

Darvond: You try finding a web developer in Poland. Or one willing to move to/work in.

"The hired individual will need to work in-house, in our office based in Warsaw, Poland."
Yeah.. there'd be an ocean of hires waiting if they just wanted to work with people.

I would've been too, but there's literally zero chance of me leaving my friends, relatives, and home to work in Warsaw. Maybe if the salary were great, but haha, developers salaries here in Europe are miserable, and Poland doesn't rank well among miserable.

Heh. Once I tried my luck with a small British remote-first company. I made it to the interview (along with about 50 other people) and it took a while since they got over job 2000 applications..

Darvond: No, who would be so pointlessly petty over a site redesign when the actual functionality is more or less the same?

The complaints are at best, a vocal minority.
I feel similarly, and it also feels like "same old song and dance" because the last redesign wasn't met well but people got used to it, which makes me think it'll happen with this too. But I like to pose this question if there's a big hullabaloo over something because finances is how you steer most big companies, if not all companies (except perhaps those who have a moral/ethical focus). Plus I've been posting pessimistically-sarcastically in some threads so I needed to make a serious thoughtful post to balance it out.

Yes. I will never ever ever play a videogame ever, because that image on the frontpage is clearly four pixels away from where it clearly should be and in this day and age it is intolerable.

I've never been this outraged since that time where someone didn't take grammar seriously and was tolerated by the shop's owners. I have since demanded a refund on all my games. Again.

Indirectly yes. The downgrade has made it too hard to get down to the news section, and the slideshow-style of showing only 3 news stories is unhelpful. I check the news section for new releases; I am now less inclined to keep clicking through to do so.

Multiple others have given this feedback too but I figure it is to no avail as the modern web requires antagonizing power users at every turn, by enlarging everything, removing as much text as possible, and having whizbang videos and gifs in lieu of no-frills content.

I and other old-school-minded folks don't seem to be the target audience with the downgrade. So no matter how much of a stink we raise, even if we were to boycott, I have to wonder if their eyes are only looking towards a new audience anyway.

I'm not going to make a commitment to spend less on GOG because of that, but it might have some indirect impact. I find the new layout annoying and it makes using the store much less comfortable, so it might lead to me not buying something as a result of that, not out of spite or as some boycott, but just because I won't feel like bothering with browsing the store as much.

Neah, I wouldn't care even if the site looked like sites did in 98. I'm here for the games...
Yes, I'm considering abandoning GOG altogether and I've been a pretty avid supporter buying probably 99% of games available here, which is a pretty significant investment on my part. But. Since the service (as a whole) hasn't been getting any better, on the contrary it's getting worse, I'm thinking to move on to better pastures, so to speak.

tfishell: "Has the site update affected (or further affected) your decision about how much to spend on GOG?"

Given all the complaints I've seen here, is the site update problematic enough for you to stop spending as much or any money here until changes occur? (Or will the complaints likely be enough to get GOG to make changes rather than having to hit them where it really hurts - financially?)
Consciously, no. Subconsciously or unintentionally, absolutely. Despite what Darvond (post #2) chooses to believe, the site redesign most definitely alters the functionality of the site (unless you define "functionality" as "I can click a button to buy a game").

1. Because the top-of-screen image is so large on the product pages, I can no longer quickly see the game information (genre, goodies, description, etc). I now have to scroll down to see that information. Historically, I have looked at many games during every sale, and usually end up being several games. However, there are many more games I pass over because I am not interested in them. Specifically, I do not care for strategy or RPG games, which seem to be the majority of games on GOG. With the previous page design, I could quickly see if a game was a strategy or RPG game or not, and quickly close the page if it was. Now, I'll have to scroll down on every page. I have also looked at many inexpensive games to see if they include a soundtrack as a goodie, and I have purchased many games exclusively for the soundtracks. Now, I have to scroll down several pages to see if a soundtrack is included. This doesn't sound like a big deal, but to do this on every page will be extremely annoying, especially during big sales.

2. It is now more difficult to quickly look at a game's images and videos. There is no longer a section to display the images and videos; the top-of-screen image is simply a banner image. To view the game's images and videos now, you have to click a thumbnail to open a pop-out screen, and the images and videos will be displayed on that pop-out. More technically, they will be displayed if you're patient and lucky. My experience over the past two days is that most images have a 4-60 second loading delay, and several images simply don't load (loading screen is displayed indefinitely). This difficulty in seeing the game's images and videos will make it more difficult to determine whether or not I will be interested in the game.

3. Everything on the product pages is larger, so there's a lot more scrolling required to get to the reviews. For one game, this isn't a big deal. Collectively, when looking at dozens of games, it becomes very annoying.

4. I saw today that the listing pages (for example, the list of on-sale games) is now in grid-only format, with thumbnail images only (no game titles). This makes it much more difficult to quickly scan the list to see if there's anything I would be interested in.

5. I saw today that the GOG home page no longer prominently displays the news items. Instead of being displayed prominently on the left side of the screen, with a thumbnail and a text description, there are now only 3 or 4 thumbnails at the bottom of the screen, with no description. That means any new games, updated games, and any other news items will be easily overlooked.

So yes, this site redesign will most definitely alter my purchasing at GOG. I'm not going to consciously boycott GOG, but these changes will make it much more difficult for me to find games I'm interested in, as well as causing me to overlook new games I might have been interested in, thereby resulting in lost sales.

I'm not sure what kind of software/hardware/internet connection you happen to be using, but I was getting around half a second load times myself (Dartboarded Banner Saga 3). Nigh instantly if the game is graphically simple like Stardew.

Well within a tolerable amount of time.

I seriously don't know at the moment. Since GOG is really special and unique in the gaming market, I don't think I will leave it completely behind.

But in the current state of the site, I am not compelled (read: downright appalled) to browse it as a pastime as I used to do. So, I guess I will spend less money here in the future. If and how significantly, only time will tell.

Depends on it. I don't really care about the new design (it looks ok for me). But if it is the new standard that gift codes we paid for (like the ones from the 10th Anniversary Collection) get an expiry date, then I certainly will stop buying gifts.

+1
I also used to browse the site, just to kill some time and maybe buy something that was on sale. I can no longer do that. Browsing GOG has become painful for me.
