BleepBl00p: Service far superior to Steam? That was a few years ago maybe.

[...]

Lets see how quick they are to respond to the complaints on the new broken UI and 'rectify' tthe whole thing. I would bet 100$ that it wont happen.

Fortuk: Service as in customer service, which is practically nonexistent at Steam. So yes, GOG has much better service than Steam.
I contacted them once for a game that was missing an update and they replied to me like 1 month later.

Steam has been faster to respond from my experience.

Yes, I've just spent some time looking through the Linux games on sale and the grid view and the missing game names as text makes this a pain. There are a gazillion different editions of stellaris with almost identical pictures. Very nice having to hover over every one of them to see the difference. And by choosing that combination of filters the number of games was reduced to about 1 and a third of a page. And it is still a huge mess.

Edit: Oh. Forgot to mention the missing paragraphs in the reviews.

All changes seemed to be aimed at making an informed purchase feel like a chore.

Darvond: You try finding a web developer in Poland. Or one willing to move to/work in.

"The hired individual will need to work in-house, in our office based in Warsaw, Poland."
that's easy. Ukrainians will do, if the pay is good. however if you already established yourself as freelance web developer (I'm not talking about game devs - it's another story) you don't need/don't want any boss over your shoulder, you already have all means to succeed and to have comfortable life. Most coders here are freelancers and no one wants to work at office.

to answer initial question:
I have games on my wishlist, I'll stick to it. I won't browse for more games, will buy only what I planned. I can't stand product page and store page. Wishlist and game library would be my only pages used. I'll spend some money on future sales but I suppose it will be less than I planned initially (reduced my wishlist from 40 to 20 titles).

no. as long as drm-free installers are provided in some capacity ill happily shop here.

not the biggest fan of the new layout at the moment, but i think with some tightening and tweaking it could be a-okay. i don't like how the news is at the bottom, i don't like how the game lists on the front page don't expand anymore but instead take me to a new page. it feels like there's a bigger emphasis on visual effects & videos and less and emphasis on words or something, which is a bit jarring, but maybe it's just me.

i DO like the way the thumbnails animate and the big game specific banners (i know a lot of people dont like these things but i think they add a bit of pizazz).
"Has the site update affected (or further affected) your decision about how much to spend on GOG?"

Yes and no I would say. I will spend less, but I plan to limit buying games here. I already have enough I would say (for near future at least). I can't predict what will be in few years time, so there can be an exception. Wishlist? I know I have games there, but it can wait. That's not pressing matter. I plan to buy two games till end of year, but they are unavailable here (and probably never will be on GOG). I don't care much how shop page looks like. It doesn't matter if it is animated, full of vids and other nuisances or simple black and white, text only on a blank page. It wouldn't change my decision anyway.
No but the poor choice of games on discount is. I was expecting way more from Anniversary Sale, still didn't buy anything. Comparing to Summer Sale where i got around 50 games, this feels like a disaster. At least my wallet is thankful. :p

Hopefully there will be something for Halloween and Black Friday, if not i eagerly wait for Christmas Sale...

No, actually, in november it´s going to be three years since the last time i buy something. The dollar exchange it´s too much high.

This. The "big" sales this year have been mostly lackluster. There were some sales that actually had more than few games on sale on my wishlist, but those particular games were behind in patching by months or more at the time, only to be finally patched after the sale had already ended, and those games haven't been back on sale since.

Your account is less than a week old though? Either way, any time I've seen people compare their experiences of Steam and GOG or the comparison gets made in a review, GOG's support is brought up as a point in its favour. The same thing happens when Steam gets compared to stores like Origin and Battle.net, with them being described as having much better customer support than Steam. You're the only person I've ever seen mention Steam support in a positive way, which hopefully is a sign that they're gradually improving.
Nein. The site update has only affected the casual browsing I may do on the site. If this leads to reduced impulse buys because I've missed something, then so be it.

Same here. I don't like the new look (and hate it more with each passing moment), but I won't make knee jerk reactions like boycotting or banning based solely on a site redesign.

If anything, I just won't pop in as much, because I like text news on the main page to load quickly so I can see what games have been released/updated. With a giant front page full of pics and video scrolls, I'll probably make those quick site loads less often... which I guess could lead me to purchase less often. Time will tell.

There is no circle jerk in the criticism of the redesign, it is objectively worse. For many people this might just be the straw that breaks the camels back.

Some people more informed than I already have a long list of everything that GOG does wrong, just as people were expecting them to fix their issues they added more to the pile. Its yet another step backward and yet another proof that they dont respect their customers.
No, I more or less stopped caring about the site's design when they erased manual sorting in libraries without warning. Much healthier that way. I mostly just care for the games, not the store. Well, and maybe still a bit for the forum, but site design changes come and go, the forum will always stay the same old broken mess we've grown accustomed to (until they erase it, I guess). ;)

It will impact for sure.

Before the previous redesign, it was easier to know which games were discounted. Since they came with the idea of boxes and labels, instead of having a flat list, I've resorted to flag games I may want in the wishlist and I just check the wishlist on each sale. If for some reason a game is not on my wishlist, unless I casually read somewhere that "x" game is actually good and I actively search for it here, I just pass, as it's a lot harder to know which games are discounted than before.

After this redesign, things are worse. I browse at 150% size on IE11, and:
* Many links just don't work. The login (which doesn't work unless I scroll down on the main page for some reason). I had to enter on FF to be able to claim the free game. It just didn't work on IE11 at all.
* Image boxes scale badly and I see just half of the image of each game.
* News are gone, which was the place were I tried to know which games released here.
* Game pages doesn't work either. I cannot watch game videos now, I cannot see reviews, and many other features just don't work. That on top of having 80% of the browser empty, because you know, that's how modern browsing seems to be.

So: If I have to trick the browser to login, I cannot know easily which games are released, I cannot read or see about them, and I cannot actually get them unless I change browser... Why spend time trying to do it at all? I will just buy which I already know it's there.

Or... Gog could just fix it. But currently, after some days, I don't know if this is actually a problem for them or not.

I'm not going to boycott GOG. But making it that hard and annoying to look for good offers and news on GOG probably will make me buy less games here and maybe finally make me create an account on other stores. I usually use the game list to check for good offers during large sales. But the changes have made that list almost unusable. The lack of information, the annoying animations and the heavily increased amount of tracking for sure do not make it a pleasure to use. So far I do not even have looked at the offers from this sale, but I read they are disappointing anyway.

The other problem is the new kind of bundles. I was a big fan of GOG's bundles. They offered nice discounts and the ability to try out games I would not have bought otherwise. But as the new bundles do no longer honor games you already own I won't buy any of these bundles where I already own a game. Having to trade expensive gift codes is just too much risk and waste of time for me.

So I probably will take Shadow Warrior 2 and that's it for this sale. Hopefully GOG's website will have been fixed before the winter sale starts.
