Wii U won't use Blu-ray, it's a proprietary disc from Nintendo. Only in 2012 we will really now what route they're going:
have way better graphics and thus a higher launch price

or

have equal graphics than the other two consoles, but with a lower and thus competitive launch price (selling lots just like the first Wii did).

StingingVelvet: EA had a decent show. ME3 was disappointing simply because they showed lame gameplay, but I assume the game is better than that. Battlefield 3 looks amazing, I hope that gets some console guys back to the PC.

I was annoyed at first that Insomniac's game is not for PC, but then they showed a trailer and was boring as shit.
Lame gameplay and TERRIBLE sounds...really hope that they're able to use the familiar themes in the game.

what is this playstation ipod touch ?

taczillabr: Let's put things clear:

Wii U can output at 1080p.

HD=720p

Full HD=1080p

Both 360 and PS3 can output at 1080p, but they don't have enough power to run the games at 1080p so the majority of them is still at 720p or less. I don't think the Wii U will be that different from the other two consoles...
avatar
eyeball226: I agree. It might support 1080p, but I imagine most will only run at 720p in order to get a better framerate. If the hardware supports it though it'd be possible for less demanding games to run at 1080p.
Nothing shocking about that, most PS3 and 360 games run in 720p, it's the big blockbusters that usually get 1080p support.
Looking forward to the PS Vita, if someone hacks it and allows me to burn some PSP games to it of course.

should u be able to upload psp games from the psn? If not, it def cannot be worth the $ or time, also who's interested in 24" 3D television in front of or downsizing their own? Looks like the corporate strategy is to spread themselves thin for a bailout when the tech bubble burst lol

Depends though. If I've completed all my PSP games by then, it won't matter so much since I don't really play games through multiple times.

While Nintendo was blowing minds this morning with the announcement of its new console, the Wii U, the company's Japanese press site was quietly releasing all the juicy specs of the upcoming machine that we hunger for. As mentioned during the presser, the console will output games in high definition, now revealed as ranging from 480i to 1080p. Moreover, the Wii U will output HD by employing HDMI.

As far as internal storage goes, it's still unclear whether or not the Wii U will come packed with an HDD, but the specs sheet does amorphously detail "internal flash storage," as well as an SD slot and the ability to use USB storage. Notably, the list points out that the USB storage will allow for external HDDs. And while the disc slot gives us the impression that Wii U games will be disc-based, Nintendo has yet to reveal its medium of choice.
For anyone in doubt as to whether it's a new console or not (wodmarch, I'm looking at you :P). So there we are, the hardware will support 1080p but my prediction is still that most games will run at 720p. I don't even have an HDTV...

no they announced a controller they just happen to be releasing a console to use it. Seriously the only people that mentioned it wasn't just a controller was EA. Nintendo screwed the pooch the console should have been center stage and in his hands a simple "This is the Wii U" would have done it but that didn't happen

So... what? You're saying that because they didn't shove the console in your face (which would have been pointless because consoles are boring), you don't acknowledge that it exists?

You insisted that it was just a new controller, you were wrong. Man up.

and when they actually show one I will. right now they just have a giant GBA with a supposed console that they never mentioned during a huge f'ing conference. For chrissakes they spent an hour about the vitality sensor last time and 40 minutes ranting about a controller and not once did they show the new console I'm sorry but thats just bull if you want to release a new console YOU SHOW A CONSOLE they didn't even show an actual controller! Right now it's vapor until they show the damn thing all they have announced is a freaking controller!

They mentioned the console multiple times... it's called the Wii U. You know that people have been playing demos on the show floor right? They've shown the controller to plenty of people, it's definitely not vapour.

You're making yourself look a fool.

EDIT: Your assertion has changed from 'it's just a new controller for the Wii' to 'I don't acknowledge the console because I haven't bothered to do a bit of googling'.

actually i'm not theres no actual console on the show floor all their demo's are running off PC's also I never said the controller was vapour just they didn't even show that during the presser compare to the move and kinect both of which were shown running and at ok speed during their announcements. Hell look at the Wii (then revolution) announcement from 2005 where they showed the console and it actually running all we got for the Wii U was.. a prerendered video nothing live.

Most likely they're in PC cases because the case design isn't finalised. We only got a video during the press conference, but I've seen a video of someone playing with the Zelda demo and it's definitely being rendered in real-time. Again, the console exists and you're just being weird.

But what demos are they playing? Are they just playing enhanced Wii games with the new controller? They did that when the Wii came out using an souped up Gamecube.

Afterall, that trailer about how the U will have all these amazng games and tech was all smoke and mirrors. All footage was from PC/360/PS3 versions.
