A fan seeking money for a Bridge Commander fan sequal. This can only end in cease and desist letter.

You mean this part?
The "STAR TREK" Intellectual Property is not directly related to this project, however we have obtained legal permission from CBS themselves, namely their legal department to pursue this game and fully develop it, we even have a few publishers lined up once the project is in a more complete (nearly done) status, so there are no risks of lawsuits.
Or another company going for a cease and desist?

Would they not be able to get away with it as long as they distribute it in a non-commercial format?
Well, yeah, the "getting a publisher(s)" part sounds somewhat delusional to me.

I think that greatly depends on a company. Activision was cool with King's Quest remakes, because they were free, but the major issues with this one is that they are actually raising money with IP that they don't have rights to. In King's Quest case Activision apparently told AGD that they weren't even allowed to take donations for the games.

I really don't think the project creators have thought this through, even if they've asked something from CBS's lawyers. There's still a huge change CBS will change their minds, especially if the project starts actually gearing money.

They will be forced to make this Bridge Commander game take place in the Star Tracks universe, where the Borg are Norwegian and the Klingons are clingy cute Panda bears. :P
"a rough estimate would place the game in 100% completion in late 2014 if funding goals are met and i am able to hire some help."
If there's no other source of income, that's $15,000 for him to live on for about a year, minus however much he is going to pay the others. Call me a skeptic...

He also seems to have a fuck of a lot of stuff planned to complete in just one year, but then again I'm hardly an expert on the subject.

Paramount might have a thing or two to say.

I also don't understand where publishers come into the picture - is a publisher needed for a free-to-play game?

And lastly - that's quite a pricy personal_thank-you_e-mail there.
F2P. Pass. Original was pretty much a single player game (pretty good as well) ?
I like the idea of this topic. I hope people post other deluisional kickstarters - like no-name developers, who have not made anything previously and nothing but an idea, asking for $800,000...

I'm all for it. If people find ridiculous Kickstarters this would the thred to post them.
The Flight of the Amazon "remake" kickstarter was a bit delusional.
Gotta mention this one here (courtesy of gandalf.nho):

$900,000 for a game made by someone whose only qualification appears to be an MBA in marketing (which seems ironic given how badly this kickstarter will perform).

But it looks like they have a game engine in place, since they have in-game screenshots.
Now this means nothing in gameplay/animation/sound department...not to mention story, quests, npcs, etc.
Oh dear. I think Kenneth is getting himself in for a world of hurt here:

For fan consideration and ease of mind, a direct quote from an email conversation between CBS's Legal Department and Myself

"CBS Studios will not object to your continued exploitation of your fan-created game"
Assuming that this quote is real (which I doubt it is, because "continued exploitation of your fan-created game" makes no sense whatsoever and sounds like he just knocked it together to make it sound like legalese), I have a feeling that he's quoted this out of context, as there is no way that CBS Studios would allow commercial exploitation of the Star Trek property for free. It's almost certain that his supposed email contact was referring to the production of a game on a not-for-profit basis.
