UPDATE: We've added a new option to the Privacy settings in GOG Profiles - from now on you can turn off your profile on GOG entirely, so no one can see any kind of information that is shown on the profile page. This also means that when you turn off your profile, you won’t be visible on your friends’ friends lists, even if they decide to keep their profiles visible.
The option to enable/disable your GOG Profile can be found in your account „Privacy & Settings” options, under „Privacy” tab.

We just introduced a new feature on GOG.COM: User Profiles – a social way to share what you and your friends are up to. See what your friends on GOG are playing, achieving, and sharing across four sections – Feed, Profile, Games and Friends.

Your Feed is the centerpiece of your Profile. Here, you’ll see which games your friends have been playing, all sorts of achievements and milestones, as well as general thoughts, screenshots, and forum activity. You can dispense your approval at whim and share your own stuff as well!

Your Profile is all about you and your gaming accomplishments. It's a summary of your activity, like the time you've spent in your games , your latest achievements (and just how rare they are among other users), as well as a glimpse at what your most active friends have been up to.

If you want to know more about your Games, you need to hit the the third tab. It contains a list of all the games you own on GOG, together with stats like time spent in-game and your progress towards unlocking the achievements. Sort the list, compare stats with your friends, and get some healthy competition going.

Finally – your Friends: get a general summary of their achievements and hours played. Here you'll also see which games are the most popular among your friends right now, so you can join them in multiplayer or find something you might enjoy yourself.

Of course, your profile comes with some sweet personalization options, choose a wallpaper from your game collection and share a few words with the world.

User Profiles are available for all GOG.COM users. Your personal gameplay stats like achievements, time played and milestones depend on GOG Galaxy, but if you’re not using the optional client you can still use the feed, post in it and interact with your friends.

Launching profiles also means adding new privacy settings on our end. You'll find three new Privacy options in your account's „Privacy & settings” area. These settings allow you to set the visibility for your profile summary, your games, your friends, etc.
So what are you waiting for? There's so much room for activities!

RainbowDragon: Sorry to jump into your conversation but reading about bandwith and cluttering... do you see a way to... perhaps, hmmmm maybe add VIDEOS to our profiles? Now THAT might really hurt them :-).... a few hundred megs, hell maybe even gig uploaded per user's profile.... wow, maybe these profiles DO have a value for us *nasty grin*
You could upload a GOG game to your profile, 700 characters at a time.. maybe miss a chunk or two so you're not replicating the entire thing.

Hmm... uploading a gog game to my (unwanted and never asked for) profile - I wonder if that would still be pirating??? I have (bought) it, and now I upload it... to me... but wait, what if they (again) change some privacy settings and someone else can then DOWNload my uploaded game? That sure would make me a pirate of my own game!

So when (no) privacy suddenly becomes piracy is that the point where we can ask the guy in Brussels to help us out because something illegal was done on gog's website?

If you did it by hand, you would just be answering the question that GOG asked: "What's on your mind?"

After thinking about this a bit, I'm not sure the list is a good idea. Here's why: I think it clouds our point that all we want is our privacy respected. We've, as individuals, informed Gog via this thread (and, some of us, via the support feedback system) that we will no longer purchase anything until our concerns are addressed. So far, so good. However, I think that collecting a long list of names might give the impression that we're actually trying to undercut Gog's bottom line by recruiting people to boycott them (and using their forums to do so).

While I understand the idea behind it, and understand it to be a righteous one, seeing it as one growing list of doom feels counterproductive (and possibly damaging) to me. In the end, we still love Gog enough to want this fixed so that we can stay here, and I don't want that message to be lost on them.

I wish all of you luck, but GOG have already shown that they do not care about our opinion or concerns in this matter at all. They could have changed the default settings at any point before this update rolled out... They had opportunity to start a meaningful dialogue with us. They could have shown off the profiles beforehand and ask for feedback. They could have launched with completely private profiles by default. They could have properly tested this new feature, so it wouldn't break existing elements of the site... When we noticed that everyone still shows their games, trophies and gametime we asked them for an option to hide that.
They could have rolled back this update at any point in the past 3(-ish) days.

There is no "respect" here. This is what an abusive relationship looks like. Even if the community gets GOG to do what they should have done from the start, GOG stays the same. The next major misstep is just around the corner:
- Utterly broken forum software? "Users won't mind..."
- Visible changelogs or version numbers? "Are you crazy? That would decrease sales! It'S bad enough that some users post the changelogs in the forums. Luckily those aren't very visible for casual users and we intend to keep it that way..."
- Improve the search function? "Hell no! Users should see as many games as possible when they search for something, so we get a higher chance of selling them games and DLCs."
- Microtransactions? "We call them 'Value Sets' now."
- GOGmixes didn't increase sales? "Stop updating that feature and tell the support staff to steer users away from using it if there are any complaints."
- Accepting game giveaways resets users' country field to their actual country? "Don't you dare and fix that! There hasn't been an outrage about that one yet. Don't you dare to fix that!"
- Want to get a game via a code? "I'm sure you don't mind our trusted friend Google taking your fingerprint while you do..."
- ...
It never ends. It will never end.

To come back to the abusive relationship analogy: You want to change your partner. It wasn't all bad. You can make them better. Imagine how much worse they would be to others if you weren't there to try and lessen the blow. Making mistakes is only human. You have invested so much. Think of all your mutual friends. And the damage is already done anyway...

To the members of the community who don't mind I can only say "Good for you. No really: Good for you." Enjoy your new feature. Nobody here wants to take that feature away from you. This is about the way said feature was implemented.

For me Games are a safe space. Yet the platform I would want to get them from isn't - I can't even trust it. I've done my fair share of attempts to improve it for everyone. But now the only way forward is to backup the rest of my installers, do some final checks on some legal stuff and get the hell out. I'm not your commodity, GOG.

I get your point, something similiar crossed my mind. But I think the point of the list is just about making this visable for GOG in what is now a thread of over eleven hundred posts, so individual declarations are easy to get missed (if anyone is looking at all :P). It was certainly not my intention to "recruit" people for anything when I made my statement yesterday and I assume RainbowDragon's line of thought is similiar.

Doing it by HAND... nah, that is not the way one should do that. But wait, 700 characters at a time - we could still do that! And being an oldtimer I would rather find one of the older tools of trade for that (which will sure help me missing a few chunks of data while uploading) ... see attached png*.

But with all due respect (that is due to our feline friends) there is already so much criminal activity seen here with all that data made public without their owners consent, what mindless creature would add to that with piracy? So to answer gog's question... nothing, I am a mindless creature who just cares for privacy. Having a profile was never on my mind...

Absolutely! I'm certain of that and, as long as that's on the record, then I think it will be seen. There's no way they're not monitoring this thread.

It might be a good idea to place a disclaimer at the top of the list informing Gog that this is not for the purposes of recruiting; rather it is so that Gog can clearly see in one location the users who are voting for privacy changes with their money.

It's a sad day when Steam is more private than GOG. It seems Today is that day.

xyem: It's not about GOG gathering the new information, it's other people being able to gather and/or use it because it is now public.
sorry but you are twisting facts. the poster ive replied to said that "Even if GOG does not outright start selling that information, they are building a future asset that can be easily transferred at will ". so yes that was about gog selling user data and building future asset for such reason it's a bold statement without any facts. so why asking for facts backing this up flips you so much?

once again - what is this data that gogs gathering with the profiles that they were not gathering before? what is this future asset? serious question.

xyem: For example, you only own 4 games here, despite registering ~8 years ago. Why should we listen to your opinion on any matter regarding GOG?
wow its saddening to see people on this forum acting as others are inferior to them due to amount spent on games... all i did was asking a honest question without attacking anyone.

You missed it. That was completely his point: that the information could be used to bully others more easily than it could have before.
