It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Darvond: You know, they're probably working on a new, better version of the notification system.

Of course, if you could point out an improvement on the website that doesn't need galaxy...
To be honest, given that the updates are still listed in the games list, I'm not too bothered about it, and I'm also not too sorry to see the back of the combined forum notification/chat notifications/update notifications count. I constantly had the problem that I received a notification of "something new" and had to mouse over to see that it was nothing more than an update of a game that I haven't played in about two years, usually relating to some Mac update, some language version or some kind of new extra.

Maybe GOG should just have the "Games" entry in the account menu be highlighted if there are unviewed updates?

Give back the notification system.

Take away the much abused rep system.

Signed, though hopefully they do have plans in the work to restore it to the forums. Progress at GOG does tend to happen at the "one step forward, two steps back" pace. ;)
Voted. Current state is unusable on mobile phones. You cannot (easily) check if you have any new PM or replies.
Please GoG, save 5 minutes for your web developers and bring notification back :)

Voted. And if this is indeed an attempt to push Galaxy by inconveniencing those who don't use, then it's a shitty thing to do, and I hope it backfires. If GOG is getting uncomfortable with being DMR-free and client-optional, just tell us straight up. I'll back up all my DRM-free installers and we'll part ways in a civil manner. Don't be sneaky and smarmy about it.

+1

these are my thoughts exactly. this topic actually made me check the front page and thankfully "drm-free" is still there. i had become so used to seeing it i guess that i had to do a double take.

BenKii: I've heard from others that notifications work in Galaxy but I don't want to install and use and "optional" client. I'd much prefer using the website as I've always done.
There are different types of notifications, friend request and chat notifications work in Galaxy similar to how they did on the website. However game library update notifications have never existed in Galaxy before nor now, so using Galaxy to get them will result in not getting them and anyone suggesting to use Galaxy is either unaware of this or conveniently ignoring the fact. :)

For those who do use Galaxy, the only way to get notifications that a game is updated in order to download a new backup copy of it for local archival used to be a combination of monitoring website notifications for game updates plus monitoring the "What did just update?" forum thread. As it stands right now, the only way to get the notifications is to monitor the update thread and to install Barefoot Monkey and configure it to enable notifications, in which case they work as they used to.

It seems ludicrous that GOG would have removed this feature from the website suddenly on purpose with no intention of bringing it back and without any form of communication about it. I have to assume that they did not intend this and are either working on a bug fix for the site update, or that they're implementing a new notification system to replace it. Either way, just removing a working system even though it was kind of broken all along shows not enough care is being taken on their part for customer convenience and expectations with regards to features and functionality.

They've never been great at communicating what they're doing beforehand though, especially if it completely breaks or mangles something intentionally or unintentionally. They tend to go the "just do stuff, then say 'oops, we goofed, sorry'" if they screw something up later on, or the other option of abject silence. It's unclear to me at least what the case is here right now, but my other thought is that it could very well be the next iteration towards completely eliminating GOG Downloader and any hint it ever existed. With or without GOG Downloader existing however, customers that do not use Galaxy and instead download direct via the web browser still deserve to get game update notifications, as well as friend and chat notifications.

For those who think GOG is trying to turn into Steam, this is strong proof that they are definitely not, because with the exception of game updates (because you're forced to update to the latest version of a game via the client anyway), you can get all of your other notification types via the web browser with Steam. :)

Well, the Notification Service is still present in the new Javascript file for the cart. And seems to be different to the old one, going purely from memory.

So considering it services no other purpose, I think it's safe to say they will be implementing a notification system again at some point.

Let's face it, the old notification system was broken to hell. If they can give us something better, maybe that gives you options about what you'd like to be notified about, then I don't think that's a bad thing.

nightcraw1er.488: Thats really the point, they want everyone using the client.
there is no client for linux or any mobile platform. Requiring the client to use the website makes zero sense.
I simply can't believe that this was intentional. It would be baffling stupid.

my money is still on the typical: "oops,. i think we broke something ..."

alternatively, as @Darvond pointed out, maybe there are working on a new notification system, alongside to the new menu. But then some funny dude in management came up with the idea of introducing the new features separately, instead of together.
"good news in April AND good news in May. == more "good news" for everybody". brilliant move ...
yes, the notifications will be broken in between, but let's not get distracted by details :p
I didn't realize notifications are gone. I just assumed I had no new notifications. I hope this is restored soon.

Fairfox: Mebbe it's a nu feature; you just has to randomly download ('n' play) gamies in case they're updated. WHAT AN ADVENTURE (capscapscaps).

fortune_p_dawg: teusdays new game is "guess which game just updated and randomly download games out of your vast collection and hope you get it right" lol.
I look forward to the wave of "Where the **** is Tuesday's randomly updated game!!!1!" threads that are sure to commence.
